These units work on the left or right side of the box. Just back off the adjusting hex bolt and retighten to change the direction in which friction is applied to keep the lid open. The plastic bushings are best placed on both sides of the hinge joint when assembling. I used the pictures on Amazon to see how they were supposed to go.The measurement directions that came with the hinges were not easy to understand. I held the hinges inside the box to see where they had to fit. Note that the hinge elbow can point toward the front or back of the box. In my case, I put the elbow toward the back of the box. For perfect installation, I put a piece of wood under the hinge and clamped the hinge to the side of the box to find the perfect location where the hinge could open without binding and where it had to be screwed to the inside of the lid. When I was satisficed with the hinge placement, I marked the screw locations with an awl. The screws that come with the hinges are too small. I bought #8 roundhead screws 3/4 inches long. I probably could have used #10 screws because there was some slop with the #8 size I used. There are five holes in each hinge, but four screws hold it just fine. I transferred the block of wood and measurements from the right side of the box to the left side of the of the box so the hinges on both sides were symmetrically placed. Once installed and adjusted, they work perfectly.

Either should be decimal or inches not a percentage of the one. I wound up drilling extra holes to get it to fit inside a 3.5 inch deep box.

Junk? The directions are horrible, and in fact, you cannot install it exactly the way the directions tell you. There is nothing soft close about these hinges. If you adjust them to the point where they would close softly, you would probably break the lid on your cabinet, trying to get the lid started on its close. Giving it one star was a stretch of my imagination.

These are smaller than I thought but they did work!

The description indicates that 2 hinges can support a 50 lb lid but I’m not certain that’s true. I installed these on a home built storage unit which does have a heavy lid, but definitely less than 50 lbs. The hinges do hold the lid from 90 deg to about 45 deg. Unfortunately the lid comes down pretty hard over the last 25 deg or so of travel, even after adjusting the tightest setting. Part of the problem may be that these haven’t been installed in the optimal way. I’m pretty handy but the instructions aren’t very clear and the dimensions they provide (inches) don’t work. That is, if you install the hinges to the lid using the dimensions in the instructions, the hinge cannot possibly be installed to the cabinet base with the dimensions provided. It’s almost as if the instructions are meant for a different size hinge, or possibly they are not inches (even though it says “inches”).I’m pretty handy but was frustrated with these instructions. There is an email listed in the directions but I didn’t bother. If you are prepared to play around a bit on your own, you can get these things to work. Clearer instructions would really help the experience and rating.
