This gate spring works really well, but there are a few things to be aware of:1. The spring doesn't work by bending, it working by twisting.So it needs to be almost vertical (see my picture) so that it twists as the gate opens. The pictures the seller suppliers show the wrong setup (the spring is at the wrong angle), and I think they've just photo-shopped a spring onto stock images.2. You need to pre-tension the spring, i.e. put a twist on it.Use the little metal bar supplied two twist one end, then put in a little metal stopper to stop the spring untwisting when you let go. Make sure you twist it in the right direction; it took me a couple of goes to get it right. I found I needed to put quite a lot of tension on for it to be effective. I tensioned (twisted) the spring with the gate closed - the spring needs to be still trying to unwind when the gate is almost closed otherwise your open gate will swing part of the way but not close properly.Some seller's reviews mention the little metal stoppers falling out because they don't fit tightly. I found that they didn't need to fit tightly - if the spring is tensioned properly the spring is trying to untwist all the time and metal stopper is forced against the bracket, locking it in place (again, see my pic) . i.e. the stopper doesn't need to tight fitting.

This product does a reasonable job, but I put it on a fairly heavy gate and it's not quite strong enough. I added a second spring, although a very similar product is available with a larger and stronger spring which might have been better.It was easy enough to fit. The screws started to rust quite quickly so I used galvanised screws for the second spring.The inserts have a tendency to pop out when the spring is tensioned, but a tap with a hammer seated them securely enough to stay in place.

I bought a pair of these as I wanted a strong gate closer. They are good quality and fixing was easy. Their strength can be gauged by the fact that I found a single closer quite sufficient for wooden gate.

Totally useless, installed on the gate, open the gate and the welding snapped and tightener popped out and got stuck.

All fitted, but for some reason one of the retaining studs flew out and cannot find it, so useless now

Twin pack. The 8" was faulty. 10"was fine. Returned the smaller kept the larger. Not the seller's fault

I'm one of those weird people that like to make sure my front garden gate is closed, it used to really bother me that 60-70% of the time I would look out of the living room window and the gate was just wide open either left open by the postman/woman, Amazon delivery drivers (that seems to come almost daily now) or my kids, it felt like I was forever having to go out and close the gate.Well no more!Bought this spring along with an anti-sag gate kit, fitted them both on the same day, it probably took me maybe 20-30 mins to install both, now my gate no longer sags or drags on the path and the spring seem to work great so far, closes my front garden gate effortlessly and without issue, was easy to install and does exactly what it is supposed to do.Now I look out of my window and the gate is closed 100% of the time, it makes me feel all warm inside.

Only had it on a gate for less then a week when it broke
