Q: does this only work with a pair to connect two buildings?

It connects any two points with line of sight and power. We use it to extend our network using wireless access points in our picnic area to connect to the main building where the limits of cable are exceeded, either by distance, geography, or cost.

Q: Do you have to use a poe? can you send the network signal straight from a network drop?

24v poe is required to power the device. You can do this using a poe switch or a poe adapter. The adapter is an easy way to use the device while not to having an entire poe system.

Q: According to some of the comments this isn't a us model. does this model have the us firmware or not?

Hi sorry i dont know. I know they work great. We are on a 300 acer farm with 3 houses and only 1 location where we have fios. My husband installed them and the strength is very good. The longest run is about 1500 yards. Just make sure the run are un obstructed, trees building etc.
