Easy to use, produces a great product
Have had this for a while but just got round to using it. I made some sauerkraut and decided to ferment it in the e-jen. I didn't need to stuff a jar and tamp it down, there was no need to cover the cabbage with a large cabbage leaf or bags of water to keep the cabbage under the liquid. The inner lid creates an air tight seal and the outer lid keeps the smells in. The cabbage fermented quite quickly and after only a few days I put the whole box in the fridge. It is quite expensive but overall I would say it is worth it.

Not much smell!
A good little box for kimchi. Making home made fresh kimchi. The inner lid compresses the kimchi works well and doesn’t release the smell. Sits nicely in the fridge because of its size.

Fantastic for making kimchi
Used to make kimchi in an normal airtight plastic container but the mess of the overflowing juices and the smell (which I love but my kids hate) would take over the whole house. Since using these not only does it stop the smell but it comes with an airtight lid inside that has a small hole in it, that lets out the overflowing juices during fermentation. You just simply pour it out with ease and no mess. I have purchased a few now. They are fantastic but a bit pricey.

Makes fantastic kimchi
I've been making amazing kimchi to a traditional recipe with this container. It works as well as traditional clay pot, but without faffing about with weights and water locks. The vacuum plate just makes it all so much easier.I will say that because of the nature of the materials with clay being mixed with the plastic to enable it to breathe, whilst watertight, it does emit a fierce smell of kimchi in the fridge even when sealed. This does not bother me and I'm not marking it down for it, because I have a separate small fridge I keep it in, but it could be a useful thing to be aware of.

Expensive, but worth it
I am a rookie kimchi-maker and invested in this pot to make sure that what I made didn’t go off. My previous attempt was spoilt by the fact that I stored it in glass jars, and it went off. It has taken a year to decide to try again….This container has worked extremely well and I’m very happy. I might even get another one. (When I’ve saved up…) It has a cunning system of squashing the kimchi down so that the brine covers it all, there are no escaping tendrils to go mouldy. When I first received the container I was surprised by the size - quite small. But owing to the fact that you really squish the kimchi down with the inner lid, it takes almost twice as much as I actually made in my pottery 2L crock. The box seems very sturdy and I imagine it will last a long time, so, recommended by this newbie.

Small but fits my needs
Its small 1.7 ltrs, but I can squeeze 1 small chinese cabbage in it. Tried it 3 times already and I managed to produce decent kimchi out of it. Its made in South Korea so the real thing !! Wonderful product and I recommend it to any kimchi addicts !

Not earthenware
I bought a 3.9L version. Just about the right size, but definitely NOT earthenware (other than the colour). It is all plastic and so, very expensive for what it is. The design is not bad, but the inside vacuum plate (plastic) and stopper look to me as though they won't last very long. I'm not sure, as I haven't used it yet, whether the salt in the fermenting process will damage the plastic, or whether it is even a good idea to ferment in plastic. If I have to replace it any time I will definitely go for ceramic or glass.

Wonderful
Loving it. I read in reviews that it blocks smell well and it is true, I have housemate who hates kimchi smell and since I got this, said absolutely nothing. Made my first batch on Kimchi. Very excited waiting for results now.

Extremely easy to use and achieve great results
After taking a kimchi class in which we packed our quarters of Napa cabbage in a quart Mason jar, I came home fired up to try my hand at making a larger batch at home. I knew, after the joy of getting a serving sized amount of cabbage cut off while trying to prevent contaminating the rest that I didn't want to keep using canning jars. So I searched for an onggi, but came up with this. I love the inner lid's helping to keep the contents anaerobic, and help seal off the aroma (which I prefer to keep separate from the rest of the food in my fridge). Thanks to a very good teacher, both that first jar, and my first batch made at home, using this container, came out great. I now have a gigantic size batch in a spare, small fridge, and another E-Jen container in an in between size I got before I realized how large that batch was going to end up being. With difficulties getting groceries these days, I'm particularly happy that I got into making my own kimchi when I did. My local Korean market is always meticulous: they wear masks and gloves, and disinfect the counter between customers. I just wait until there are no other customers there, and I can quickly shop safely for the few things I need. It's good to know I can always get leafy greens in my diet, and I love the radish kimchi also. The effervescence of homemade kimchi is amazing. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it; and when you make your own, you can adjust the recipe to your own tastes.Thank you very much for reading my review. 1.6 gallon easy fits 2 average nappa cab
I bought the 1.6 gallon/6.4 liter. I made 1 batch of kimchi with 2 average size napa cabbages and had about 2.5 inches of head space left. (I wasn't optimistic that it would fit before getting it in lol)Wanted to leave a review with an idea of how much could fit in this size as that was the part I was most unsure of when trying to decide on my order.Very happy with this purchase, and glad e-jen now has clear containers!! Makes me happy to see my kimchi lol

If you eat kimchi you need one of these!
This container has saved my kimchi! I usually buy kimchi in a larger size from my korean market since its over an hour drive from me, but I'm the only one who eats it in my home so often times as I'd get halfways through the container it would start to go very very sour and I couldn't enjoy some of my favorite dishes with over fermented kimchi! I came across this container and wow it keeps kimchi tasting freshly made for months! You can also use it for other produce as well like cucumber salads and what not! I'll be buying more in different sizes as they are so handy.

Miraculous - beautiful kimchi
Omg this actually works! First time making kimchi. CSA has blessed us with a plethora of cabbage and Bok choy this year and I recently moved to an area where I cannot buy real kimchi. This fit a huge head of Bok choy and a giant napa cabbage. I was worried after reading about mold but there was no problems at all. The kimchi is BEAUTIFUL and better than store bought! And there was absolutely no smell while it was fermenting in the fridge. I even had shrimp in there- no smell!!!

Keeps the smell inside the container where it belongs.
Keeps the smell out and the taste in. Love this little guy. My fridge doesn't smell like kimchi. I need another one for my smelly pickled radishes but not sure how well it will work because the vacuum sealer inside works by the inner lid pressing all the air out of the contents.
