Yes, the saucer extends beyond the lip to catch drips. We purchased a ladle separately and it fits on the saucer, although it is a tight fit

Q: The spout for poring seems so wide in the photo. Would a ladle be necessary for drizzling a small amount of gravy?

It’s looks easier for heavier gravy. I also own a ladle.

Q: What are the dimensions of the opening/top of the gravy boat? I ordered another boat that was designed with a very narrow opening & my ladle won’t fit

I am not sure why you need a label, I just poured the gravy in to each boat. No need for a label as the boat has a nice pour spout
