Q: How do I insert the blade into this scraper? I tried sliding it in and it's loose. I am quite embarrassed to admit I haven't a clue!

Regarding the #16011 Scraper Knife. On the back of the package Go onto step 2 and push up the button. On the left side you will see a longer slit then the right side this is where you insert the blade you just slide it all the way in.

Q: Can I use this on a glass palette to scrape dried oil paint off the surface?

Yes. As a glass professional I use this tool all the time. It works best to use a new blade every time. Especially if it's used for any other purpose or on any other than a smooth glass surface. Such as the edges of glass which would mar the edge of the blade. I use the same side of the blade each time. (I always use the switch toward me, or away from the surface.) Also, always only use it in one direction. I do not drag the blade back from the scraping direction. I also try to wet the surface with some sort of glass cleaner first. These precautions will help to insure you do not scratch the glass with some unseen grit, dust or bad edge on the blade.
