Itβs stainless.
My old ball hitch was chrome plated which chipped and rusted for years ( looked awful). This one hopefully will stay clean looking forever. It is super strong as well.

Could be great but its not...
Hitch ball looks much better than the very rusty Curt ball it replaced. We'll see if it really is corrosion resistant.I knocked off two stars because the hitch ball nut was slightly oversize. My known-to-be-good 1 13/16 impact socket worked just fine installing and removing the first Curt hitch ball. When I installed the new stainless steel ball I found the nut to be slightly oversize. With "persuasion" provided by a good size hammer I got the nut most of the way into the socket and torqued the nut to specs but then I had to reverse the persuasion to pound the socket off the nut. I made it work but shouldn't have to be so hard. By-the-way, I checked to see if somehow I had a 1 7/8 inch nut. I didn't. It was oversize 1 13/16.

Highest weight (10,000) 2" ball with 1-1/4" shank from Curt
Was looking for a 2" ball to go with my curt 45340 17,000 lbs. 2 inch drop hitch. Since the trailer hitch on my 2006 F250 is rated for 12,500 lbs., I wanted to get something as close as I could to that. Curt does make a 12,000 lbs. 2β ball, but it only has a 1β shank and is back ordered. I figure that this ball is close enough at 10,000 lbs. The finish of the ball is a bit different than the picture in this ad, as the ball is stainless steel, and the image appears to be chrome plated. Curt recommends tightening to 450 ft/lbs, but my largest torque wrench only goes to 300 ft/lbs. Looking at some charts for stainless steel fasteners, it appears that the unlubricated torque should be set to 480 ft/lbs., and the lubricated fastener torque should be 408 ft/lbs. Since I donβt like putting stainless steel fasteners together without lubrication to prevent galling, I decided to install this using the lubricated number of 408. The nut that came with this fits a 1-13/16β socket and the flats on the ball are 1-7/8β across. The nut appears to have a direction, as it will fit a socket on one side but not the other, and the threads are ever so slightly different from one side to the other. I tightened in 50 ft/lbs. increments, marked a line with chalk on the nut and hitch, and found that from 150-200-250-300 ft/lbs. the ball had turned 3/8β each time, or almost 15Β°. To get the final torque I used a 36β breaker bar and turned the nut an extra 3/8β, twice. The ball did attempt to rotate in the hitch up to about 350 ft/lbs., and required a 1-7/8β wrench to hold it in place. The final tightening from 300-400 ft/lbs. was about the distance of one corner of the nut being moved to a flat section (30Β°). Checking the height of the ball at the end put it at 17.5β to the top, or about 16 ΒΎβ to the center. I put a few images in to help others if they are trying to get a proper amount of torque on this nut.

Great balls of fire or something
Nice ball. No more rusty balls for me. Had this one mounted up on a forged Aluminum drop hitch 6 inches down on the back of my Hummer H3, This truck is a 2008 and has been kept in new conditions no rust on frame, axles, or body riding on 35" with 3 inch lift and only put 2000 mile on it in two years. So with the aluminium drop and Stainless ball's make this complete and no more rust there in the ball's area. Nice built ball's, strongly balls. 2 inch balls. Well that's what the trailer need on it. 10,000 pound balls. Ok you get the point. This is one ballistic truck (You thought I was going to say balls) And these balls will last a life time.

Works great, but typical size ball wrench is too small
It works great - the only issue is you have to use a larger-than-expected wrench to install it, because the hitch ball wrenches you can buy at the box store are not large enough for this hitch ball. After solving the wrench size installation problem, I drove a trailer halfway across the country and it stayed put just like it should have, and it's no worse for the wear. About what I'd expect for a huge piece of metal whose only job is to stay exactly where it is :-)

STAINLESS STEEL IS THE BEST
Stainless steel is the best as it is sturdy and does not rust over time. This one is well made, robust and easy to install using large wrenches. I bought it to install on the towing bar of my pickup truck. Very satisfied so far.
