Unique and functional
Each piece of Himalayan Salt Crystal is a unique treasure, and having one milled into a functional mortar & pestle is fantastic. My set is much more rose-colored than the one pictured, but it still has the inner glow. The bowl is deeper and narrower than many traditional models, allowing for better, more direct contact with fine materials like dried leeks or lemon grass. So far, there has been no salt taste transferred to anything I have ground. The flat top-end of the grinding rod is nice for leverage, and doesn't bother the palm of my hand even when I'm really working and pressing hard. My only wish for this piece is that they had felted the bottom, or provided a small disc of wood or rubber underneath. The salt crystal is softer than many tile and natural stone counter-tops, and is also prone to cracking from impacts. A real showpiece for my collection.
This is absolutely gorgeous. I began collecting mortars and pestles 25 years ago after receiving a couple of them as gifts when I graduated from pharmacy school. I have them all, big and small, old and new, stone, metal, wood, glass, ceramic, and now salt. This the one that visitors most ask about because it's so unique. I haven't actually used it, but I bet it would add a nice hint of saltiness if used to grind dried culinary herbs. It's deliciously salty--yes, I licked it.

Excellent!!! I chose this one because it is made of salt and ok with salt in what I crush up. The other options that would leave more objectionable residue were not acceptable. It did lose a bit of the pestle on the first use, but to be expected as carved out of a natural piece of mineral salt. I use it a lot right now to crush up peppers into flakes after harvest. It is holding up very well.I would buy again and I think this makes a great gift. The price is right for the product.Thank you!

Dont buy it.
Terrible product. It made my drink so salty it was poisoning me. I asked to send it back and seller agreed. I asked them several times to resend email with instructions but they will not. A true waste of money!!!! They cracked as soon as water touched them. They kept their form but split into a million cracks as soon as the liquidt touched the surface.

Bowl is exactly what I expected. My initial review was for a different company that charged too much for a substandard product. I am very happy with this product and the excellent quality. Money well spent.

lovely plain bowl without electric fittings
Have been looking for a Himalayan salt bowl forever (without electric light fitting )... a large one about 18 inches in diameter. Could not find one and this one at least had no electric fitting, smaller than I was looking for, but still beautiful.
