I ordered this for my 5 year old. My 11 year old just started band the 5 year old wanted to learn something. I got a great book on Amazon for her age, too! I play saxophone and have taught tin whistle. I am tempted to have her go back to tin whistle first because for a 5 year old it is rather difficult to make certain she has the thumb hole covered. She is getting it, but it is very slow. often she is playing the same note due to her thumb hole not being covered. I know this is not the fault of the instrument, but if you are looking for a young child I just wanted you to be aware. My biggest issue with this particular instrument is that we got transparent (I had her pick and it was the prettiest) and with it being transparent it is gross to see how much of it does not dry out. I did put some fabric on the end of the cleaning wand, but it doesn’t get up in the mouthpiece. I believe it does dry out and it won’t mold or anything, but if you are germaphobic at all, maybe avoid the transparent ones.
