Great folio-style case with poor quality control.
Yes, this is missing the smart cover feature. Yes, this does add extra bulk and weight to the very light iPad Air. And yes, the speaker grills are indeed partially covered by the case. Be aware before purchase but know that none if that actually interferes with its useability. The material is a very nice south touch faux leather feel. Not the best but much nicer than something you'll find on a Moko or Poetic case. The iPad is well secured and it provides full coverage while still leaving a thin sliver of the shiny metal edge visible. For me the level of protection negates the weight. The speaker grills are covered by a thinner plastic that provides an air gap so the sound comes through just fine while still protecting your speakers from dust (if that was ever an issue for you). The grooves are deep and provide four different viewing angles (much sturdier than the official Apple case, which I returned). The stand is not as sturdy in typing mode but it is passable. You can obviously fold the cover all the way for a flat surface, the plastic lock does not interfere. Speaking of the lock, it is angled which prevents the cover from laying perfectly flat when locked. Now, my biggest gripe about this cover have to do with quality control. I previously purchased a more brighter color and after having it for a week I decided to buy a sleeker more toned down black version. I choose to buy it from Amazon instead of Target because it is $10 cheaper on Amazon. The stitching is messier and not as tight as the pink case. The soft suede inside material is surprisingly thinner and feels as if it would wear faster. Most aggravating, the bottom back panel that folds is crooked and stretched with visible gaps between the cover and the plastic case. And the right corners of the case are scuffed as if someone dropped it on concrete. At this point it's not worth it for me to send it back and buy another but I would have been better served buying it where I could inspect the quality before purchase.

Very nice for the price!
I would have given it 5 stars but I am annoyed that it doesn't turn my screen on and off like other cases. With that said, my iPad fits snugly inside, the case closes completely, and the clasp secures it perfectly.I was a little worried after reading other reviews that the clasp would break on me but that hasn't happened and I open and close it constantly. It is easy to clasp and unclasp but still feels nice and secure - has not yet loosened it grip. The inside is soft - made me feel like a screen protector was not necessary but I always get one anyway :3 When I forget by cleaning cloth, I rub the front of my iPad on the inside part of the case to clean the screen - work very well even tho it wasn't made to do that. The outside is okay - stylish I guess. I just didn't want another giant pink eyesore, so the soft gray color with the slightly darker gray hearts works very well for me. My cat did walk across it and caught a claw... the outer design does tear pretty easily as the cat's snagged claw pulled about and eyedrop sized piece of the design off. No biggie - still works. It just now has an eyedrop sized white spot in the middle. It is unknown how well the case will take to jarring or dropping - I haven't dropped my iPad nor smacked it sufficiently against anything. If I do and the case does not stand up, I will modify my review. But for now the case is great for the price and quality!

Good quality but frustrating functionality
This is a quality case, and definitely superior in quality to the abundance of the average cheap ipad cases out there. The quality of the materials it is made out of are definitely apparent to the touch and it is nice to hold in the hand, and the look of it is tasteful and expensive-looking. However the actual functionality of the case leaves a lot to be desired. Some other reviews here have noted that the cover does not have a built-in magnet to automatically turn the ipad on and off when opening and closing, but to me that is a non-issue (seriously people, how idiotic is to complain that your ipad case doesn't turn your ipad on for you? just touch the sleep/wake button with your finger, how hard is that?). The real issue is that the case doesn't lock into the various positions when it's open. When it's closed, or when you fold the cover all the way back to hold the ipda like a book, you can lock the cover in place with the clasp. But it does not lock it into the various viewing and typing positions that it folds into, so if you pick up when it's folded into the viewing or typing stand the cover just flops open and you have to refold it before setting it down again. This is totally annoying and to me it is a huge oversight. I've had much cheaper cases that lock into all their various positions. So while this speck folio is nicely constructed it is actually rather inconvenient to use.

Best case for iPad - experienced case user
I have used atleast 3 other cases for my iPad 2s- those in the $15-20 range. For the iPad air I wanted to spend a little more and I am glad I did. This is the best possible case I could get for iPad air. I looked at several other cases in Best Buy and Target - took them out of their covers and held them in hand. None of those offered the right balance of protection and weight as this one did.1) The case fits the iPad like glove and provides unmatched protection all around for the iPad. There are absolutely "no issues" with corners popping out, etc. I have 2 of these covers and both of those fit my iPad perfectly. I do not like those cases that are too open around the ports and speakers. I had minute knicks and dents in my old ipads that had exposed edges. The Speck provides all-round protection2) I will trade the sleep-wake up function over protection any day. My older cases had sleep-wake up function but I disabled it on my iPad. I like the manual control to put my iPad to sleep or wake it up. I do not want my iPad to wake up as soon as I flip the cover3) The clip is solid and strong and I do not fear of it breaking unless someone tries really hard to break it4) I like how the openings of the speakers are towards the front. The sound is channelized towards the viewer5) The different viewing angles in horizontal position are a charm to use. The groove and wedge mechanism is easy to use and very stable on a flat surface

High Speck, value for money, iPad protection!
I bought the Black and Tan on (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Leather-Wallet-Retina-Display-compatibility/dp/B007Y5K2LG/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1409314136&sr=1-4&keywords=iPad) but discovered that it did not protect the corners of my iPad - £15 wasted (I know, it's £20 at the time of writing).I approached this purchase more carefully, I wanted:Requirement On this product, mark out of 51. a rigid shell case for basic. 5 - it has one!2. leather cover, 3 - it's PU, so similar, although you do get the PU smell. Leather ones, similar to this start at £703. secured closure, 5 - tidy, well designed fold over clip4. adjustable viewing angles. 5 - there's a ridge in the case which means the iPad holds it's position in groves/channels pressed into the inside cover. Nice working design.5. as slim as possible. 3 - slightly more than doubles the thickness of the iPad6. cool look. 5 - well I like it.Main drawback is that it isn't a Smart Cover, so won't lock the iPad when you close it. But that's easy to work around by setting autolock to 60 seconds.

Excellent protection for your iPad Air
The product arrived in a well-packed case, easy to open and prepare it for installation. Kudos to Amazon.I already had Zagg InvisibleShield (front+back) on the iPad but I needed a quality case to go along with it, especially for outdoors & trips for maximum protection. This case seemed interesting, and after browsing the web for alternatives, I decided to go for it since it looked good in pictures and video, and I already have experience with Speck products (CandyShell cases for iPhone).Installation was easy (even though I have InvisibleShield on!), you just need to firmly press the iPad in the case, around all the edges and make sure it fits nicely. The overall look & feel is great, the clasp is firm. It does add weight, but I wouldn't exaggerate like other reviews that say it adds "significant" weight. Nothing out of the ordinary. There are a number of available positions you put it in (typing, viewing, etc.).Downsides?It's a bit expensive. It could be cheaper, around ~20GBP, IMHOIt lacks magnet feature (on/off on open/close). Even though I personally don't use that feature, a lot of folks do and there's no excuse for not including it in this product.Overall, a well-designed product that I can fully recommend (...unless your REALLY need the magnet feature ;) ).

Great for the price.
I needed a protective cover for my new light 'n lovely iPad Air whilst not adding too much bulk to the equation. The Speck fulfills that need really well, it's discrete and offers the benefit maintaining the slim form factor but adding some vital protection against everyday knocks. It flips up into an easel prop for viewing in 'landscape' format at four different angles and also doubles back on itself for reading whilst commuting,

Also day to day this is as good as comparable cases I have used- the device can ...
Ive ordered another of these as I have already witnessed it save my iPad from destruction - I dropped it right on the corner. The case did its job and completely insulated the device from the impact, deforming slightly in the process so needing to be replaced, but it really was a hard impact. Impressive stuff. Also day to day this is as good as comparable cases I have used- the device can be set to various positions ideal for typing, watching content etc.

Robust practical value for money case for ipad Air
I spent ages examining all the cases for ipad air in stores as I could not afford the apple one and actually wanted something stronger and more robust to throw into my bag for work. This case is economic in style similar to the apple case but less than half the price and I think its better as it has hard casing at front and back with a clip on side so you dont worry about the top flying open. It has holes in the case so you can plug in without removing. Its also got three indented strips in the inside front so you can position at angles when working on a desk.
