Box set featuring four adventures starring Jeremy Brett as the famous Baker Street detective. In 'The Master Blackmailer' the dastardly Charles Augustus Milverton (Robert Hardy) holds all of London in his rotten, blackmailing grip. This unpleasant fellow has spent years preying on the weaknesses of others and has made his fortune in the process; but now, with the able assistance of Doctor Watson (Edward Hardwicke), Holmes is set to put an end to his unethical practices once and for all. 'The Last Vampyre' takes Holmes and Watson to a small village where accusations of vampirism are hanging in the air. One hundred years after his grandfather was burned alive for the murder of a young girl, the aristocratic John Stockton (Roy Marsden) has been accused of causing the death of a local man's daughter. Is there really a vampiric strain in the Stockton blood? Holmes and Watson try to see through to the bottom of the matter. 'The Sign of Four' has Holmes intrigued by the case of Mary Morstan (Jenny Seagrove), whose father disappeared ten years previously. Every year since, Mary has received a pearl from a mystery benefactor, and she now requires the Baker Street detective to act as her escort in a meeting with the unknown patron. Matters are complicated when a murder takes place and Holmes engages the assistance of the Baker Street irregulars in tracking down the killer. Finally, in 'The Eligible Bachelor', Holmes is not amused when Lord Robert St Simon (Simon Williams) requests him to track down his fiancée, an American heiress who disappeared on the very morning of their wedding. Confiding to Dr Watson that he almost wishes he could meet an adversary to match his former nemesis, Moriarty, Holmes is nonetheless intrigued when he discovers that Lord Robert is not all that he seems.
