Kinetic sand is strange and cool.So here's my opinion:My biggest concern was how much of a mess was this going to be. I was pleasantly surprised to find it not bad at all. It's weird because it looks like it would make your hands wet but it doesn't. I was afraid I would get all in my carpet and all over the hardwoods but it doesn't break down like sand. It stays in these little clumps that you just pick up like a piece of paper - not like sand at all like I expected. I did buy an extra bag to have more to play with since the packs that come with it isn't a lot. I will also point out that the blue and pinkish colors don't stay those colors. Within the first day after him playing with it the colors mixed together and it all became purple. My kids love this. It's a simple two sided tray design with lots of little molds for them to play with. The trays mean my son can play on one side and my daughter can play on the other, with out the two colors of sand mixing, and without them fighting over space. The sand cleans up fairly easily (easily enough my four year old can pick it up and put it in a plastic bag for storage). Anything that falls on the floor is really easily swept up. I was really concerned about bringing 'sand' into my house for my preschoolers to play with, but this set helps keep it all in one place!

My 3.5 yr old daughter has enjoyed the playset so far. We've had to resort to using it on the patio instead of indoors as the sand is obviously very "loose" and particles tend to get everywhere, but I'm sure much of that is due to her age.Pros: Nicely packed, colorful sand and molds, good tight container to prevent spillage when stored, well-designed product, sand was consistent and uniform in textureCons: You receive two relatively small red & blue 1-lb sand bags. Since the hinged box closes clamshell-style, unless you keep the colors separate when playing AND bag them neatly every time you close, they will intermix into a single dark color.Also, there isn't as much sand as is pictured in the box photo (there's a disclaimer that the set includes less than is used for the picture on the box), so the quantity was a tad disappointing.. but that was more my reaction than my daughter's. She still enjoys playing with it.Others have commented about the smell.. we weren't bothered by it, and in fact Play-Doh seems to smell much stronger, so YMMV.

My 8 year old is autistic and he loves this! He has difficulty with touch, smell, and staying on task. This holds his attention and he enjoys creating, molding, and running it through his fingers. The smell does not bother him and this is easy to clean up and store. I ordered another set that had different colors and he is soo happy. I will definitely order more.

We are pleased, although one of the packages of sand was dried out, so we mixed the two. The kids didn't seem to notice, but it comes in plastic bags, so if it came in plastic tubs like the smaller sets, it likely wouldn't have dried out.

Forget All Other Brands! Moon Sand (et al) is messy, but Kinetic Sand is amazing! I'm the grandmother and I enjoy playing with it! It sticks to itself better than other brands, but when you don't want it to stick, it runs through your fingers just like real sand at the beach. I just can't say enough good things about it.This playset didn't have the greatest molds, but we bought others in addition to 2 more bags of sand. The great thing about the set is that it folds up and keeps everything nice and tidy inside.
