TEACCH program does more to meet needs of autistic children than any other program.
The TEACCH program is the only program based on brain dysfunction - as opposed to behavioral theory (ABA) that ignores neurology and brain function and only teaches to observed behaviors. The TEACCH program uses structured teaching and I encourage every parent and educator to study this program. I am a parent of an adult child with autism and have 30 years of teaching experience. Anyone who claims that a particular program can cure autism (a brain disorder) is being highly deceitful and is not helpful to parents or children with autism. Children with classic autism do not learn like typical children through observation and imitation so they require a predictable and structured environment to learn mainly through rote memory. Although the TEACCH program needs updating to incorporate current brain science, it provides excellent basic advice.

A Book in review
This is an excellent resource for understanding the philosophy of the treatment orientation known as TEACCH. As you read, you realize just how deeply committed these people are to partnerships with people with ASD and their families. Theirs is not a doctor/patient relationship, but is rather a cooperative effort in which each person appreciates and builds on the other's strength. In this sense, autism becomes more a particular way of looking at the world than a disability; that is, people with autism are supported through an understanding of their strengths and not their difficulties. TEACCH looks at what is possible, not what can never be because of a diagnostic label. Well written, thoroughly researched and an easy read. I recommend it highly.

A text; what can I say? Some new; mostly Review.
Like any text, mostly droll and frustratingly the same as I was studying 1980. All the money and effort and we are making very little progress in the field while identifying more and more ASD people.(sigh)

What a wonderful resource!
I found this book useful on so many different levels. First, as a teacher of students with autism and related conditions, there were so many ideas to try. Second, as a parent of an adolescent on the spectrum, I found the sections on adults very informative. Mesibov is one of those rare professionals that takes into account the perspectives of those on the autism spectrum. This book not only recognizes individuality, but celebrates it! Truly one of the most helpful books I have come across!

An essential resource for educators and other professionals who are in interested in the TEACCH model
This important volume describes in detail the philosophy and practices of the TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communications-Handicapped CHildren) Program, which utilizes a progressive collaboration model in the treatment and support of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Written by the program's co-founders and their colleagues, this book traces the growth of the program from its inception over 30 years ago to its current status as an internationally renowned center offering interdisciplinary services and training. This handbook is a key resource for clinicians, educators, parents, and other caregivers who want to learn more about the TEACCH approach to ASD. Well worth the money
This product was expensive but I decided to get it on kindle to reduce my costs. It was well worth it though and gave me lots of great information for my SENCo qualification. Easy to read.
