Move over Junie B Jones....
Both of my girls have loved these books and re-read them all the time. We can't get enough of them. When my oldest was 6 we were looking for books that were simple but still somewhat challenging, beginning chapter books. She has adored these books and even today still reads them now that she is 8. Our other daughter who is 6 is now enjoying these as her introduction to chapter books. They are right on par with being challenging but still simple so that as your little reader progresses it is still an enjoyable book. The print is a good size and there are a few pictures.I highly recommend starting with the collection, or at least with book 1. The first book introduces Heidi in a fun way, your reader won't want to miss it. After that you don't have to go in order at all. Each story stands on it's own so pick the adventure your kids want to read and have fun on the magical journey. Every book has been fun, uplifting, and full of great lessons. We have gathered quite the collection in the last two years and I recommend these to everyone I know. The character Heidi is developed so well, and has such a great attitude-- it's the kind of character I'd like my girls to learn from. She is a polite girl who's trying to learn her way. What I also love is that there is an element of magic involved which is fun for the kids. It's like Harry Potter for a younger generation. If you are looking for the in between books for your beginning reader start with these. They won't disappoint you or your budding reader. Get your wallet ready because once you start, you won't be able to stop.

Perfect first chapter book!!
My 5yo who has been reading for about 2 years hasn't been interested in chapter books UNTIL this one!!!! She read this boxed set in 3 days and is begging for more. She reads alone so I havent read the books myself but they must be great! It takes her about 30-45min to finish a book which means a great book for a restaurant! I'm getting more now. She also loves the Princess Posey & Critter Club books (we also recently descovered these). Any other suggestions?

Cute Series for Lower School Girls
I got this series for my 4-yr. old grandaughter who loves it and my 7-yr. old grandson also likes to listen when I read them to her. Of course, I have to read it to her, but I think girls through lower school age would really enjoy it as well. They also have some underlying messages to them about personality types.

my 6-yo daughter loves these
my 6-year-old daughter absolutely loves these books; I have had a hard time finding a series of books that she enjoys and we finally found one that she looks forward to reading - so happy! btw, I also do not mind reading these with her/I enjoy them (unlike some of the other books we have tried) which is also a benefit for me

Great for kids moving out of easy readers!
Though this is a bit below my daughter's reading level, it is perfect for her to read as she falls asleep at night because she is not stuck on difficult words. It is relatable to kids that are 5-8 years old and fun because it still has pictures but is formatted like a chapter book, which is a prideful thing for kids who are moving out of easy readers. I have a feeling we'll be buying the entire series!

Probably suited for 1st grade independent reading level.
My 5 1/2 year old is a good reader for her kindergarten self, but she's no prodigy. These books are just abut 1 year too much for her to read completely independently. She enjoys the characters and they are great for a partner read with an older reader. A nice introduction to real "chapter books" and a value priced set. Heidi is a fun character for a spunky girl to enjoy!

Negative book
This series seems to have a very negative, depressing tone. The first book is filled with "school is boring" and "I hate school" diatribes. I am not sure about the other three books in the collection, because after reading the first one, I'm afraid to look in the others. The first three chapters of Book 1 are called "Grouchy", "Double Grouchy", and "Hello, Meanie", respectfully. The opening sentence of the book is, "Heidi Heckelbeck woke up in the Kingdom of Gloom." I thought perhaps this was just a poor opening to an otherwise well-rated series, but it just continued to get worse. Almost every chapter starts with some negative take on some aspect of school. The second sentence of Chapter 4, she wonders if she can drop out of school. On the very next page is a scene where she writes, "School is a big, fat bore" and "I am not coming back to school" on the chalkboard. A couple pages later, she writes "Heidi + School = Yuck". I thought perhaps if I just skipped ahead a bit I could get past this. So I flipped ahead to a random page, which happened to be page 88 in Chapter 8. Predictably, there was a drawing that says "Planet I-Hate-School". I then flipped to chapter 10, which starts with her burying her head in her pillow and thinking, "maybe she could stay in bed the rest of her life", which "sounded perfect". This is not the kind of reading material that I want to start my daughter off with in the first couple years of school. So I will be looking elsewhere.

Good Choice
My granddaughter has just finished kindergarten and has really gotten into reading chapter books. After much research and careful consideration, I picked her this set of Heidi Heckelbeck books. It was a great choice. She LOVES them and even carries them with her in the car when she travels so that she can read them. I highly recommend them for girls just beginning chapter books.

Good reading with good morals
These books are great for 6-9 year old kids, both my nephew and niece loved them, and this set will be a Christmas pressie for another pseudo-niece!

Its a book
We received the book series in an envelope and still wrapped in plastic however the box itself was damaged. Maybe fell or bumped against something, but it wasn't a gift, it was a replacement for the same books that belonged to a family member that was accidentally donated to a library. She didn't mind the damaged box, she just wanted the books. My kids enjoyed reading them.
