Worth every penny to see mom comfortable
My 83 year old mom who prefers to sleep in a recliner loves it!!! Her pressure sore is healing! We like the fact she can use it for her recliner, wheelchair and the car. It's a little pricey but worth it to have my mom comfortable.

Best cushion
A little $$$ pricey and worthwhile for comfort. It’s versatile use from car seat, transportation chairs and stationary seating. The cushion is very soft, durable, and pliable to alleviate stress and pressure points.

Does not prevent or heal pressure sores
As someone who sits in a wheelchair many hours each day, I had high hopes for this Silicon Valley developed, Stanford University Hospital tested cushion. While the technology may be one of the most advanced pressure relief systems in the world, it was NOT effective in preventing and healing pressure sores. In fact, it actually CREATED them, which set back the progress I had made in physical therapy. While my Amazon account says my refund was issued on Nov 18, 2024. It's Nov 30, 2024 and I still have not received it.

It looks like any other cushion
THIS HIGH TECH, ANTI PRESSURE CUSHION REALLY DOES WORK. It looks like any other cushion, but there seems to be something in the layering of the materials that makes it work. After having searched and searched and having purchased some real losers, I ordered this cushion for my Mom who spends a lot of time in her wheelchair and had started to regularly develop a pressure sore right below her tailbone. She is in a first rate nursing home and lack of care is not the issue. We have been emphatic about her being up in her wheelchair and participating in life and not laying around in her bed so the pressure on her tailbone became an issue. She had just developed another sore just before the cushion arrived. This time, with the cushion in place, the sore healed really, really quickly...like within a week. Normally the staff would be nursing it along closer to 2 weeks or more before it would heal and the scab would fall off and then before we knew it another one would develop. It has now been almost a month and no new sore. We have all been checking her and there aren't even any red pressure areas on her behind anymore. The nurses can't believe it because this sore cycle has been going on for months.I highly recommend this cushion for anyone with similar issues. The best part is that there is no setup; it is a NO-BRAINER. Just take the cushion out of the box and put it on the wheelchair or whatever chair you're going to use it on. You don't have to pump any air, you don't have to mess with any straps (it stays in place), the person/patient does not have to be placed a certain way on the cushion and if being placed on a wheelchair, the cushion covers the entire seat instead of only covering half the seat and putting pressure on the back of the thighs. I am beyond relieved that my search for the perfect cushion has ended before my Mom's pressure sores became a real problem or worse yet, a life threatening problem.UPDATE: 09/08/2016I am happy to report that the PURAP Low Pressure Cushion is still holding up after almost 2 years of constant use. My mom's cushion never leaves her wheelchair at the nursing home and THANKFULLY ever since we bought this cushion she has not had even one occurrence of the pressure sores that kept developing near her tailbone. Shortly after the initial purchase, I also had bought a second cushion for my aunt at the same nursing home and her cushion too has held up in the same manner after constant use.I am a firm believer in this company and this product. It has been a lifesaver for my now 95 year old mom because I know that had I not found this cushion after trying so many others, her pressure sores would have become a huge medical problem. Since the 2 cushions worked out so well, I recently ordered their new OASIS office cushion that I am using and enjoying at work.

My OT's pressure maps of both my Purap & ROHO cushions: hope this can be of some help?
1st of all, I am a 35 year post injury quadriplegic due to a spinal cord injury. I have lost a lot of muscle mass, especially where I sit. So my boney ischeal, & tail bones are very risky area's for skin breakdowns due to lack of circulation since I can't get off of them or feel the pain from the first signs of trouble. Over the years, I have had to have my caregivers make visual inspections for redness when putting me to bed to alert me of problems. I have come close to serious trouble but have found that ROHO cushions have worked the best for the pressure despite the inconvenience of them not being stable @ preventing my hips from sliding out of chair & also having to make sure they have the proper air pressure in them since that has to be occasionally readjusted over time.I was sold on the Purap Cushion by a discussion I had with one of its makers at an Ability Expo in San Jose Nov., 2014. Was told it had better pressure mappings than a ROHO cushion. Being 1/4 of the cost of a ROHO it seemed worth trying, especially since it promised more stability, less maintenance & easier transfers.Well 1st day on it a red spot appeared on my left ischeal area so I stopped using for two weeks, long enough for it to clear up. I then tried it again, doing more weight shifts than usual by using my electric wheelchair's tilt mechanism every now & then. At the end of the day, there was still a slight pink spot in the previous area, confirming that the Purap cushion would not be an improvement over what was already working. I didn't just leave it at that. I took it a step further by scheduling a appointment with an Occupational Therapist who was actually able to measure the reason why the Purap cushion didn't produce the same results as my present cushion. I've photographed & posted those images for your benefit below. Please bear in mind I am not endorsing ROHO cushions here. I am including this information for ones in my special situation who are having to deal with Rehab issues unique to their situation who might think as I had hoped, that this Purlap cushion could be in the same class, if not better, & for less money, than some of the high-end Rehab cushions out there. Make no mistake, the Purlap cushion is still a bargain for what it does, providing comfortable seating & a lot of pressure relief for the money. But for those of you who are in a similar situation as mine, I know you will appreciate the value of this information.....
