Great Ballast and Real Money Saver
I was looking for a better value in ballast for HO, but at the same time, it has to look good and be the right color. I also looked at some gourmet ballasts. This is a medium to fine grind using Woodland Scenics as a reference. It is consistent in size. It has a good mix of colors and shades. For my application, it was a little dark. I added a portion buff medium, playground sand, and grey medium and then it was spot on for my mix. Everyone will have their own formula and mix. With this price, you can sure ring out a lot more track for the money. I have been ballasting all weekend and am very happy with this product.

I love this stuff!
I love this stuff! It sure makes it easy to get it like Others. But the being able to set/glue it down with misting of water is great. No getting glue on other things. No worries, just let dry and run your trains. LOL I use a paper towel and wipe rails in order to play sooner. Use a blotting action. I highly recommend this product!

May need to apply extra glue
I found this product to work very well if following instructions. It spreads well and stays in place while misting with water. Also, for thicker areas you may need to use a drop or two of dish soap or a mixture of alcohol with water to break up surface tension. I did this then applied an extra layer of PVA glue mix to really lock the ballast down. Although the Bedrite already has glue mixed in, I found that applying more improved the finish. I thought the color was appropriate for the area I tried to replicate as well. Overall I am very happy with the results!

It takes a lot of work to make it look good
This ballast is a great deal, 10lbs for $25.00. Woodland Scenics is 32oz (2lbs) for $22.00. My gripe is the cleanup you need to do to each and every tie. After you've spread the ballast to be even with the ties, the ballast leaves a whitish powder on the ties. This almost makes it look like you have cement ties. I had to take a fine brush and brush off the tops of the ties, each one. I had to do it a second time to get the residual powder off. I sprayed it with water and let dry overnight. It dried hard but I missed a few spots. I sprayed the areas and let it set. Came out ok. One of the other reviews said they thought the ballast was a little oversized for HO. I think it's a bit undersized, some of it looked like sand. Someone else said to run a magnet through it because it has a lot of metal shavings in it. I ran the magnet over it afer it had dried and did get a bunch of shavingsI'm giving it another chance. The first test was on code 100 with black ties, I want to see what this looks like on code 83 with brown ties. The code 100 rail was a combination of brass, nickle silver and steel. The track on the left in he photo is brass and the track on the right is steel. I did find that I had to wipe down the steel rail after spraying to avoid the steel from rusting.Overall I guess I would reccommend this to a person that had more experience than me,

Will buy again!
This was exactly what I was looking for. Perfect for HO scale. It's a little darker than most ballast but this was the look I was going for. Just lay dry and spray with water and it holds form. I recommend running your train around after you lay it dry to make sure you have nothing in the way then spray with water.

great ballast
The ballast actually went quite far as an estimate between main HO track and spurs and other odds and sods i used it on i would say about 75 ft of track and that was being generous with the ballast probably go a lot farther if care was used when placing the ballast. but because i live in Canada with shipping and all i find the cost very high for my liking
