Lots of fun for 2 players, optional variations to keep it challenging over time
This is a fantastic game, and the variations allowed in this second edition/version make it possible to increase the challenge as we get better at it, or keep it simple for different age groups. As another review or two mentioned (and I am grateful for those people), this is a GREAT choice for couples looking for games that can be played in a group of 2 with as much fun as a group of 4. Also it's a very different game. I think there's a lot of very complicated, hours long strategy games out there and they end up seeming all similar. The gameplay in this one can be complex, without making incredibly difficult instructions, making it easy to ramp up at parties with people new to the game. Also, the physical parts are stunningly designed. It's a very beautiful game, laid out on the table.

Tsuro Enhanced
Tsuro of the Seas expands upon the idea from Tsuro: The Game of the Path by adding a new level of complexity and some absolutely beautiful art. My Wife and I enjoy the original game and this game lives up to those standards. For those not familiar the general premise of Tsuro is that you construct winding paths across a game board by playing tiles from your hand. You want to avoid colliding with other players and running off the edge of the board, if either of those happen, its game over for you. The object is to be the last player left on the board. The game is a mixture of strategy and luck, you want to play your tiles carefully but you can only work with the tiles you have. Count on there being times where even careful strategy will be thwarted by bad luck with tiles. Tsuro of the Seas adds a new dimension to the game by adding what are essentially sea monsters. These replace tiles that would have been played otherwise and can move and shift through the course of the game by a dice roll that happens at the start of every turn. Now, in addition to avoiding your opponents and the edge of the board you need to avoid the sea monsters, too. This is a great new feature of the game, it adds a level of excitement that wasnt there before. But, at the same time, it makes things a little more complex. It took us a few minutes to get the hang of the new rules, both in terms of how to start and setup the game but also for how to play. Once we did, it wasn't bad but it did help that we weren't totally new to the game. It wont take you long, but do expect to be a little confused the first time you read through the rules. Overall a fun game with simple rules (once you get the hang of them) that can be played quickly (less than 15 minutes) and isn't intense to the point that it would exclude the casual gamer (though the serious strategy gamers may be disappointed if they are looking for a game with great strategic depth).

An excellent upgrade from Tsuro!
Overall: Tsuro of the Seas is great in the way that it lengthens the game play from the original Tsuro board game. You are playing as the captain on a ship carrying precious goods through dragon infested waters. You must follow the currents laid out before you either to your doom or your ultimate survival. Others are awash in the sea with you, but only one ship will survive the perilous journey. Dragon are generated by the game through dice rolls by each player during their turn and these beasts descend from the clouds with monstrous appetites! Appetites that only a boat full of delicious humans can satisfy. Avoid the beasts and the terrifying edge of the board as you seek out the ultimate victory over man, beast, and bad fortune in the most dangerous sea known to man! Swoop like a dragon and snatch up this one today! Components: This game has 8 well crafted boats, several wake tiles enough for all the players, dragon tiles to keep things perilous, and a beautiful board. Each item is made of quality cardboard stock and the boats are made from plastic as are the dice sets used during each turn. Everything feels really good and will hold up well through multiple game nights.

It's not a bad game at all, but does have some flaws that worth mentioning.
Tsuro of the Seas is one of those games that isn't too competitive and very laid back. It doesn't require too much skill and could be played for almost all ages for a fairly large amount of people. It's a game that's very easy to learn, very easy to get into and also...very easy to lose interest in...if you're not careful. One of the great things about Tsuro of the Seas is that it has dice mechanics. Which means there is luck involved. However, this game could be played just like the original Tsuro by removing the dice and the dragons for an even more pleasant and easy going gaming experience. but, even with the tension of dice rolling involved and the impending doom of ferocious dragons, the game has a slow pace that seems to fluctuate its speed between slightly fast and steady throughout a single gameplay. Tile placement and drawing can get a bit tedious and most smart players often stay on the edge of the board, avoiding the majority of the dragons which means avoiding most of the action. The core mechanic of this game rely solely on the dragons the dice movement, which is actually a very cool idea until someone gets eliminated in which case they sit around and roll dice for the dragon movements and even then the level fun drops by about a fraction. And when there are 3 or less people still remaining the board the game seems to drag-on (no pun intended). In some cases, you'd probably to have implement "House Rules" to keep the game going and more interesting. I don't think this game is bad, I just feel that this game needs the right gaming group and also a big group of players (8 maximum), I think a good group for this game is around 4-6 at least. Don't worry about age group, because this game can be a fun family game and could played with almost anyone who understand basic concept of tile placement, and dice rolling. I've had such a fun time with this game when playing with two separate gaming groups who felt that this game was a blast to play but also felt that it could go on and on and early player elimination would suck so much. Get this game for some good family fun on a quick game night, get this game if you want something a little easy going with your gaming nights, get this game if you want to take a break from some of your more tense gaming sessions. get this game for a large gaming group. Don't get this game if you're looking for something that has sole competitive purposes. Overall it's a decent game that I am proud to add to my collection, hopefully you feel the same too.

Great family game, always enjoy playing it, but needs dragons figurines to make it more interesting
