Scytek Astra 1000RS Complete Remote Engine Start System

I wanted to replace my old dead UNGO remote starter. I bought this unit despite the lone "1 star" review from Mike L. which stated it came with no remotes because my installer, who came highly recommended, suggested it. I quadruple checked the SCYTEK website to make sure I was ordering the correct unit since the product description states one 2-way LCD remote and one 1-way remote. That is NOT the right description for this unit either. This is the ASTRA 1000RS and it DOES come with two of the standard 1-way remotes as shown in the picture. I believe the unit Mike L. is referring to is the ASTRA 1000RS-MDL. Either he ordered OR was sent the incorrect unit.It took my installer 2 hours to install the 1000RS and it appears to be working perfectly. Both remotes were programmed without issue and seem to have a very good range. While checking out at a big box store I decided to see how well it worked since I was parked quite far away. While still standing in the check out lines well inside the building, I pressed the start button, hoped for the best and found my car running when I arrived.2 features were pointed out by my installer. The first was the quick stop. Place the car in park, with the car still running press the start button on your remote, turn the key to the off position and remove it and the car will continue to run while you run a quick errand. I did test this and it works perfectly. The second was the automatic start mode. He referred to it as the cold start mode. Turn ignition switch to off and wait 3 seconds, turn the ignition switch on and off 3 times making sure to end in the off position then immediately press and release the "valet" button which by the way is located on the antenna which is usually located by the rearview mirror. The car will now start every 2 hours or 1 hour, depending on programming, for a 24 hour period of time. I plan to test this when temps drop below 0 degrees.There are a number of features that can be customized with this 1000RS and this leads me to the only thing that could cause me to snivel. The manual calls them "Programmable System Options" and then continues with a numbered list that describes the options. There is also a nice little numbered chart which lists the feature and the button/options that match that feature. Unfortunately the features mentioned in 15 through 20 in the list do not coincide with the features mentioned in the chart. There is no way of knowing for sure what I am customizing with out taking the time to test each one. Since some of the items would take hours to determine I decided to check for an updated manual on the SCYTEK website and found one. There are 2 new features listed in the online version of the manual, but the same mismatch of features 15 through 20. Maybe some day I will verify each of them but today is not that day and tomorrow isn't looking very good either.So why 5 stars you ask... if I never figure this information out the ASTRA 1000RS still works wonderfully. It is inexpensive, has great range, remotely starts, locks, unlocks and provides me with the unexpected bonus quick stop and cold start mode. Time will tell if it stands the test of time, but the bottom line is, barring a premature failure, YES I WOULD recommend this unit.
