Q: I have one that fits on the bottle well but doesn't tighten or seal. Is it defective or am i doing something wrong?

I wouldn’t call it defective, but poorly designed and manufactured. The screw mechanism that expands the gasket (which presses against the inside of the bottle’s neck, forming a seal) easily gets stuck. The”stop” for the screw is a notch that’s been crimped into the screw. It will easily get stuck. There’s no way to fix that without dismantling the device.

Q: I have one of these and it seems to work as stated but when I tighten it, it sits crooked on the bottle. Am I over-tightening or putting it on wrong?

Beware, its plastic and it will break if you tighten it too much.- It happened to me, before tighten it you have to sit it all the way in the bottle

I had the same issue. The seal wouldn't seal unless I turned it all the way and it would often click/pop without fully sealing the bottle. It would take a few tries before it would partially seal the bottle. Now, despite careful use, the unit is broken and just spins without expanding. Only got a few months of sporadic use out of it. I would shy away from this model
