No, a Pit Bull is not a normal dog, once a Pit Bull grabs onto you he won't let go for anything. You can even poke it's eyes out, and he won't let go, I'm speaking from experience. Maybe the Grizzly Bear spray is stronger and will work better? Look up ASIN B002E6VAHK Model #FBAD-04. A gun or knife if legal in your area is the only sure proof way, or even a bat. But you need to spray him before he bites.

This item does not come with a holster although the UDAP Jogger fogger does.

Must you shake the canister before use?

You do not have to shake the can before use.

Does the can have to be held fairly straight up and down to spray? Or can it still be sprayed held sideways? Or even upside-down?

I haven't tested my spray but experience has shown me that up and down is the best way to hold it. This is true of all aerosol sprays.
