Seems to be good steel.
I already knew from reviews that the circular retainer of the typical impact wouldn’t work. I have a half inch drive adapter in my Hole Hawg. The splitting cone easily accepts it. Too easily. It also falls right off. Would have been a superb feature if they had cut a small hemispherical indent for the retaining ball to snap into.It is a tough piece of steel. Shows no tendency to break or bend.I overestimated the ability of my Hole Hawg to split wood. It can dog out. This is why the guys on YouTube adapt the cones onto the drive axle of a junk vehicle.I also overestimated my ability to hold the HH against the torque. It was a 50/50 type proposition of who was going to win the torque battle: me or the Hawg. I quickly learned how to stabilize the wood and if you find a pre-split in your log it works well.I suggest that you get a strong electric motor, reduce the drive with a belt pulley and rig a clutch in it for quick stops. For me, that’s towards the bottom of my bucket list.

This is a back saver!
Well this works but the wood has to be dry and cracked using my electric impact wrench. I will keep it for small jobs.

2 stars because it's a nice product, but seller didn't reply to my questions
I purchased the cone wood splitter from Sylvan Arms via another shopping site that they also sell on. I've contacted them twice via that site's messaging service but haven't received a reply to either message. Here's what I've learned since buying the cone wood splitter, and why I contacted Sylvan to ask a question:- The 1/2-inch opening in the cone wedge I received fits on my 1/2-inch Craftsman ratchet, 1/2-inch Tekton impact extensions, and 1/2-inch Performance Tool breaker bar & impact extensions- The 1/2-inch opening in the cone wedge does not fit on either of my Kobalt 24V 1/2-inch cordless impact wrenches- The Kobalt impact wrenches have the quick release retainer ring which is commonly used on most 1/2-in impact wrenches these days (attached is a photo of the common retainer ring style)- Unfortunately 1/2-inch drives with the retainer ring are too large to fit into the cone wedge's 1/2-inch openingIf you plan to buy this to use on your 1/2-inch impact wrench, make sure you have an adapter that will allow you to use it. Also, no matter what you connect this to, there is no function that retains the cone splitter on the wrench you attach it to. The common retainer ring style is too big to fit in, so that won't retain it, and the cone splitter does not have an indent for the common ball bearing style retainer. This could be a positive in some situations, but also a negative in other situations.

Great alternative to a hydraulic splitter!
Great product! Will save me loads of money versus buying a hydraulic splitter, once I pair it with a good motor and build a table for the whole setup. If you must use this with a hand drill or impact gun, you definitely need to find a way to secure the wood as it's being split so it doesn't whip around and strike your ankles/shins.

Piece of Sh?t
What a piece of junk. Seriously even with a 700 ft/lb impact gun it won't split or penetrate the log. GARBAGE.

Great for kindling wood
This is not for splitting big wood! This bit is more for kenneling wood. works fine for that!!I was surprised how fast it was splitting small chunks of cedar then using an axe.

Didn't work for me
Did not split 5" logs. Tip bent after the second attempt to split a small log... disappointed
