Specifically Reviewing The Activities Book
Well, I’m a big fan of The Music Tree series and I think Frances Clark is a genius (feel free to see my reviews of her book as well as other books in her teaching series), but this first activities book is pretty simple, repetitive, and maybe even too juvenile. There’s LOTS of coloring. Students are asked to color in their finger numbers on the first page, and then do it again on page 10. On page 4, there are six huge notes and the assignment is to color the notes going up one color and the notes going down a second color. This repeats on page 11. This is a waste to me. The last page in the book is also coloring but they are coloring in a rainbow and for some reason every student looks forward to the “rainbow page” so I suppose that’s okay, but it still seems like a waste. Also, it’s not like the colors used follow any sort of theme or association.Improvements I would make:1. Remove the repeat pages.2. Include more pages that address and compare specific intervals, matching up with the units in the Time To Begin lesson book.3. Enough with the matching! This may be a personal preference, but I really detest matching exercises and games. Kids love to make it challenging to check by drawing swirly lines all over the page. So, instead of drawing ridiculous lines, I have them write the answers next to the items they are matching. This forces them to spell out the words they are learning, which seems far more beneficial than drawing curvy lines.4. Take out the “To help you…” parts of pages 44 and 45. Don’t give them the answers! Make them work for it!5. Even more emphasis on repeated notes. Ms. Clark obviously thought repeated notes easily trick students, and I agree with her. So let’s include even more of this.6. Make the book longer overall. The lesson book is 72 pages. This book is only 48. My students LOVE the activities and look forward to picking the pages that correlate to their lesson. Most of my students decide to go ahead in the book and do many pages that have yet to be assigned (which is fine with me!) because they enjoy the activities so much. Pages 37, 38, and 41 are perfect note-reading exercises and I replicate them because my students can never seem to get enough. So give them more!!

I returned this and now they want me to review it????
I ordered this, they sent a towel instead. So I returned the towel for a refund and bought the Music Tree book locally. I am not sure why Amazon would ask me to review this product after they screwed up shipping it to me. Well, the book a I bought locally is great. My 5 y.o. is doing great with this book. He is much more invigorated about playing piano after spending a year playing twinkle-twinkle Little Star in the Suzuki Method.

great beginning piano theory book
This book is great for younger music students. My favorite part is how it teaches children how to conceptualize steps, skips - intervals in general. Lots of activities for them to figure those things out. I'm a piano teacher, and this one gets the point across.

Good for beginners
Good for beginners, although it is a little elementary for someone starting at age 10. Still it's getting the job done.

My daughter uses this and so does her piano teacher.
WAs going to teach my daughter's how to play piano so I got these books. Ultimately, decided to go with a student in the neighborhood to teach and she uses these books. She likes them and the girls are playing so must be working!

Best young beginner piano program!
This is my favourite program to teach young beginners. The activity books make it fun and interactive, and adds variety to the student's practice schedules. I've been using this program for years and highly recommend it!
