Works well except . . .
For me, the round rod got in the way of using the sharpener. I am glad it finally broke loose. The sharpener would be a better instrument if the rod were removable.

Versatile Sharpener with Some Big Limitations
This sharpener aims to support the major sharpening tasks for kitchen and other light edged household tools: creating / repairing an edge and maintaining (honing) an edge for knives and scissors. Edge creation/repair involves removing metal, while honing primarily consists of edge micro-straightening. I tested it for both uses on a number of kitchen and pocket knives and scissors of medium to high quality, including both stainless and high carbon steels. It does an OK job with regard to the edge creation / repair tasks for soft to medium hardness knife metals but does a poor job in its edge maintenance role, making it more of a one, rather than two, stage sharpener. As such, along with its other limitations noted below, I consider it to offer mediocre value even at its listed "discounted" price.Pro's:- Groove for sharpening scissors works well and is convenient (be sure to place the flat edge of the blade against the flat side of the channel, meaning that to sharpen both blades of a pair of scissors you must draw the blades in different directions)- Ceramic sharpening channels seem to do an OK job creating/repairing an edge that is not too dull to start- Channels for sharpening knife and scissors blades in one tool is convenient- Good, safe grip if using it handheld rather than resting on a flat surface.Con's:- Ceramic sharpeners within the channels are on the smooth end of the spectrum, so creating or repairing an edge on a very blunt or damaged blade will be difficult, if not impossible, to achieve.- Ceramic rod for maintaining / fine tuning (honing) an edge is difficult to use and fairly ineffective because it is so short - barely 1 1/4 inches long - and pretty smooth. While the aim is to replace a sharpening steel, the length makes it almost impossible to draw with sufficient force and at the desired diagonal angle down the blade of any but the shortest knife blades. Further, its smooth surface doesn't seem to "bite" enough to hone more than blades made of relatively soft metal.- Wobbles when trying to use it resting on a flat surface - the thumb indentation that enables one to hold it for honing a blade means that it lacks a fully flat bottom surface that can be used wobble-free on a counter or table surface. Conclusions:The major advantage of this sharpener is that it provides channels for sharpening both knife and scissor blades. If you can only obtain one sharpener, and your blades are not too dull or made of higher quality harder steel, this feature may make this sharpener desirable. However, you must be comfortable holding the sharpener in the air while drawing the blade through it rather than resting it on a steady surface because of it's tendency to wobble when used resting on a flat surface such as a counter edge. The honing rod is fairly worthless other than for a very short and soft blade such as that on a pocket knife, as pictured on the detail page. However, sharpening steels from good and even high-end cutlery brands are a dime a dozen at your local Goodwill and other thrift shops; I've purchased several for $1 a piece. So if you are on a budget you can substitute for the fairly worthless honing edge fairly easily. In my opinion the honing rod design could be improved by using a slightly rougher ceramic and making it several inches longer, which could be achieved by making it as an insert with a short protective grip that is stored in the handle and withdrawn for use.

Razor Sharp Knives Without the Slightest Risk of Slicing Yourself!
The best knife sharpener I've ever found. Does knives, scissors, and the whet stone at the end is perfect for getting a perfect edge every time. I especially love the handle. I can't count how many times I almost sliced my fingers or hand open on other brands. Combines perfectly sharp and perfectly sharp. Great product at a great price
