I agree with below answers. I only use hot pads when I use it in the oven. The handles don't get hot when used on top of the stove.

Q: How does it work with glass top electric range

This works great with a glass top range. It has a flat bottom which makes direct contact with the glass top, and the glass top heats quicker than a standard electric coil, so there is no long, long pause while the heat is transferred to the pan.

Q: Is this safe in the oven?

I haven't tried it, but I cannot see why it wouldn't be. If you are the absent minded type that might grab the handle it would not be safe for you.

Q: Reference the pan diameters: is the measurement for the bottom of the pan or the top rim? I need to choose one that will hold a 12" steamer basket

I believe the skillet is 12" on the bottom frying surface. My 12" glass lid is much too small for the upper diameter of the skillet. I'm not sure that the skillet is tall enough for much of a steamer basket. Only about 2" tall....I hope this helps.
