Continuing a great series
If you have enjoyed the other Snyder's novels, then you will love this one right along with them. Great story, fast paced, lots of action. It just keeps you hooked. I just couldn't put the book down until I finished it. The only down-side is that we have to wait until 2011 for the next book in the series. And I can't wait. I'm dying to know what else is going to happen next. If you love magical fantasy novels all of Snyder's novels are for you. She really knows how to hook a reader and to keep them coming back for more.

Disliked the changes in some characters but still enjoyable story
I would give this book 3.5 stars.I really wish I had re-read Storm Glass before reading this one but I still really enjoyed. There were a few things I had forgotten but I quickly slipped back into Opal's world. I found Opal much more irritating this time around. She was too head strong and whiny for my tastes but you did have to start feeling sorry for her as one bad thing after another seemed to happen to her. Things also heat up in the fight for Opal's love. Kade is his usual strong, caring and supportive self but Devlin really surprised me. I actually felt myself starting to like him and wonder if Opal might be better off with him as he doesn't have conflicting duties like Kade does as a storm dancer. The plot intrigues in this sequel will keep you wanting to turn the pages to find out what is really going on and who can Opal really trust. I have to admit there were a few plot twists that I did not see coming. What bothered me the most about this book though was the change in Ulrick's character. The change in him even knowing that he is now in a body that craves blood magic doesn't seem to account for is complete turnabout in how he views Opal. Yes, I can understand some bitterness but the fact that he seemed to contain not even an ounce of affection or friendship with her just seemed strange. Maybe I'm forgetting more than I thought from Storm Glass but this just struck me as odd. Still I really enjoyed this read and the ending really has me wondering what will happen with Opal in Spy Glass.

A very enjoyable read
A great continuation of the trilogy. Great twists. I love the characters and their journeys. The writing is interesting and moves quickly. I can't wait to read the last book in the series. I highly recommend the book for any one who likes a magical story that enjoys a little romance mixed in. The world in the story really comes alive as the story develops/

Poor Opal
This is the second in the 'Glass' series by Maria V Snyder and takes place in the same world as her 'Study' series with occasional appearances of characters from that first trilogy.I enjoy all of Maria V Snyder's books to an extent, but this is turning into my least favorite series. Poor Opal just can't catch a break. There is quite a bit of politically motivated action and quite a bit of 'what were you thinking???' action on the part of Opal. She always seems to get taken in which Opal thinks is because of her too-trusting nature. But sometimes I think she just doesn't think things through or she didn't have enough information at hand to make a sound decision. But nearly every decision she makes comes back to bite her in the behind. Things do turn out well for her in the end but only after being repeatedly kidnapped or arrested, doubted and discouraged. The book has underlying themes of trust and at one point Opal's 'People-to-trust' list is comprised of maybe two people which for Opal (and me for having the broad overview) was depressing.Character development was also a key concept. Opal & Devlin in particular made huge strides in their respective personalities.I just hope that in book 3, Opal gets vacation time and some kind of decision is made as to whether she'll actually end up with Kade or the newly-changed Devlin...

Toughest of the series so far!
Honestly I had a hard time with this one. So far the series has been captivating and the characters believable enough that I could sit back and enjoy the story. During this book, however, I was frequently frustrated by the main character acting irrationally naive. I also had a difficult time with logic jumps or behavior of other characters that didn’t seem very realistic and would break my suspended disbelief.

Glass magic in a troubled teenager
This is the second book in the Glass Trilogy, a companion series to the Study Trilogy. Opal has learned more about her powers, and the Council is troubled by her abilities. She is frustrated by her information on blood magic and the apparent body switch that occurred to her friend Ulrick that no one believes. For most of the book, Opal's personality is all over the place, and she reminds me of a confused teenager. At times, the character was hard to empathize with and seemed so different from her prior appearances. She is dealing with finding her own place in the hierarchy and with those who love and care for her. The mysterious Sea Glass does not appear until late in the story, and seems to be more of a set-up for the final novel in the series. While there were many scenes of capture and escape, there were some unexpected twists and turns to the plot. There were also a few threads of plot that were mentioned but not fully developed (the magic diamonds encased in glass, for example). I hope that the third book will bring things together in an interesting conclusion.

Opal Cowan grows in power, confidence and confusion - but tackles it all!
Opal Cowan is growing in power... this is a superb second book to the trilogy. I really like the style of this writer, her imagination relating to the evolution of the magic that the lead characters acquire and then learn to master is brilliant. She then applies this to huge consequences and events which both shape the plot of the book and provide the depth to the characters and sub plots.Opal is a wonderful focus for this book, she has a fabulously rounded personality with many qualities and imperfections that make her so appealing to the reader. In this second book, Opal gains in confidence with her magic abilities but wrestles with the dilemmas this power provides. She has to grow in maturity, to judge people, their intentions and deal with some serious circumstances whilst losing faith in her supporters. This book sees Opal complete more missions for the keep and then through to graduation and stepping out on her own to take control of her destiny, or so she thinks. I didn't see such a dramatic ending, these events will definitely give a new slant to the final book. I find myself on a countdown to the release date of "Spy Glass" in September 2010.So far this trilogy for me fits two reading groups, adult fiction and young adult. The sexual content has little detail compared to some writers in the genre but for me the plot base is richer than novels that specifically target YA and provides interest for YA and adults together.Roll on September!

A Great Read
I got into the first series by this author (The Study series) and was thrilled to find out it there was a spin off series, i read book one in a day and couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. You are greeted back by some familiar characters and introduced to some new ones. The plot is fast paced, full of twists, turns, suspense, love and trouble. An excellent story, totally gripping and addictive, now i want the next one.

Meh....
So many issues with this..... Supposedly smart characters who consistently fall for the most obvious plots and some very unhealthy relationship dynamics...

Good story but a hard read
I enjoyed reading this but found it hard to get into at first. The magic element drew me to it. I will read the rest of this series. There was too much technical mumbo jumbo that put me off, I moved on to another author but will go back to finish series. Not sure if I would recommend as a teen book as a hard read but worth it if you persevere.

Opal Cowan continues to gain powers
This is the second in the Opal Cowan series, and is even more un-put-downable. Which of the two romantic options is she going to choose? How does she use her new-found powers? who are her friends and who is betraying her. Some of these answers will have to await the third book in the series. Roll on September.
