My espresso machine came with a plastic scoop and tamper. I obviously couldn't get the espresso tamped down in the portafilter the way I wanted by hand pressure so I purchased this brand. I highly recommend it as it works perfect! I would definitely buy this product again! It's a great value and lightweight. Very easy to use and I like that it is made of stainless steel and a hardwood handle. Very sturdy.

I’m happy with this purchase. It seems to be consistent with force release, fits my 58mm portafilter great, and has sturdy construction. It is beautifully designed other than all of the corny writing around the rim, I think they should write the name and branding on the bottom of the upper rim to preserve the design aesthetics. Overall, I think that it has improved my shot consistency.

The springs inside are a little grindy and crunchy, but it’s nicely finished and does the job the same way every time.

I've been using this with my CASABREWS machine for months now, and it's been great. I went with the flat base since flat tampers supposedly get better extraction, and I haven't been disappointed. Fit & Consistency: The 51mm fits my portafilter perfectly—no wiggle, no gaps. The auto-leveling actually works, so you get a flat, even puck every time without having to think about it. Spring-Loaded Feedback: The sound feedback is clear and satisfying. You know exactly when you've hit the target pressure. I usually click it a few times because more pressure on the puck will never result in worse extraction, and the consistency shot-to-shot has been solid. Build Quality: Feels hefty and premium in the hand. It looks great sitting on the counter, and cleanup is easy. No wobble, no cheap-feeling parts. This thing feels like it'll last. Learning Curve: Zero. If you've used a regular tamper, you'll be fine with this immediately. Minor Complaints: It only offers 30lbs or 15lbs of pressure—I wish there were more adjustment options or the ability to go higher. Also, coffee grounds do get stuck between the leveling head and the top, though I've noticed this happens with other auto-level tampers too. Not a dealbreaker, just something to be aware of. Bottom Line: Great tamper at a good price. Does the job, feels solid, and looks good doing it. If you want consistent, level tamps without overthinking it, this is a solid choice. For me (and trust me I am the type of person to research on and on) there is not another tamper on the market now that is worth paying any more for.

The build quality is excellent, with a solid, nicely weighted base that’s finished in a sleek matte black coating, which not only looks modern and professional but also resists fingerprints far better than polished metal. It fits my 58mm VST basket with near-perfect precision, allowing for a level and even tamp every single time. The handle is both ergonomic and stylish, combining the weight of metal with the natural look of wood, making it feel comfortable and balanced in hand, even during back-to-back shots. Since I started using this tamper, my espresso has noticeably improved – richer crema, more even extractions, and far less channeling, which tells me the consistency is exactly where it needs to be. It’s a very thoughtfully designed tool, and the overall experience feels premium right down to the packaging, which was simple but elegant.

I love MHW3 products, however, I have had several issues with the last few products that I have ordered from them. I love the aesthetic and the style of their products and this tamper was no exception. The weight and the feel of this unit is great and feels well built I even like how the base is designed. However, when tamping the shaft feels like it’s grinding inside the handle. The action of it does not feel as smooth as other ones that I have used before. Again, I love their style and their product line however, the amount of deficiencies that I’ve been experiencing from the last five or six products is the major cause for a three star review. It seems as if quality control, returns, or simply reselling used items as new has affected the quality of the products that they’re putting out.

This self leveling tamper is easily one of the Better Buys for espresso that I have made. This tamper is far better than my original cheap Chinese knock off that I bought first. This tamper is solid, doesn’t wobble, and centers the coffee bed every time. It is incredibly easy to use, and is solid and very well made. This tamper, a Turin SK40 grinder, and fresh roasted beans have elevated my homemade espresso well above Starbucks. (Not an incredibly high bar, but for homemade I’m proud).
