Holy Bible: Contemporary English Version Paperback – March 1, 2006

Several years ago, I decided that I wanted to read The Bible, not just a verse or chapter here and there, but the entire thing, from front to back. The Contemporary English Version made this possible for me. It also helped me in college, where I minored in Religious Studies and read/studied The Bible for certain classes. The Bible can be very difficult to understand at times, even the ESV and NIV can be a bit tricky. Initially, the CEV Bible I had was from my childhood and was pretty beat up by the time I got to college. It also had Precious Moments on the cover and looked childish, so I just didn't use it very much. When I finally did use it, I was amazed by how easy it was to understand! As the name states, it is in contemporary English. There's not a single word or statement that is not clear. It made my classwork go must smoother...at first. The only down side, is that the language is so simplified, sometimes you miss something. Usually it is subtle and doesn't take away from the overall message, but when studying The Bible, I have at least two different versions open to be sure I am not missing something. This is only really a problem for in depth study. Recently, my old Precious Moments CEV was upgraded to this one and I really love it. It is sturdy, but not too big and bulky, and is the same inside as my old one. It is a must have for anyone who has ever struggled to read or understand The Bible.

I love the CEV translation. It makes the scripture easy to understand by using simple and current language, but it also takes a lot of the religious jargon out and replaces it with a simple explanation (for example fasting=worshiping God by going without eating). The CEV is a translation as opposed to the message or the living bible which are paraphrases and it is very accurate. As a Youth Pastor I give these out to kids who don't have their own bibles, because of how easy it is to understand and the fact that I trust it's accuracy. I also appreciate this for my personal reading because it makes the scriptures seem to jump off the page more. This is a great beginners Bible but it is also a Bible that can grow with you.

My wife has taught ESL for 28 years [English as a second--or another--language]. This version is more than just a revision an updating of the old TEV. Barclay Newman and folks at ABS put together a very readable translation of the Bible that is easier for internationals to read; but it also helps put the faith of our fathers in the language of our children. You probably ought to have the CEV along with your other Bible versions you own in hard copy or electronic. I own most of the tech stuff you can buy, but I still like to mark up margins, underline hard-copy books, and put footnotes of my own for other generations to read. Oh, this translation won't beat out some of the others, but it's quite worthy.

The media could not be loaded. I love this bible! I've been searching for this all over the place and I couldn't find it. Thankfully this seller has it!!! It's basically in perfect condition!!!!!!! Loved the way they took care of the bible, it was all wrapped up! I can't wait to gift this to my boyfriend :)

Pages are super thin (like many bibles these days) and the font size is fairly small. However, I've noticed little to no bleeding with the ink, which has sometimes been an annoyance with previous bibles. The story line itself is easier to follow, more modern terminology. I like that's it's hardcover too, very nice.

I have read a few different versions and I really like this one. It is great for someone that is just beginning to read the bible as it is much easier to read and much less confusing. I strongly recommend anyone that wants to start reading the Bible that they start with this version and it is offered at a very reasonable price. Please try it, I don't believe you will be disappointed.

If many are like me and are starting to get into the word of God, this bible is the great tool. It really breaks down which book is of the prophets, the gospels, mini prophets, history, etc....And on top of that, the wording couldn't be any better. It's not that I don't understand the KJV (King James Version), but, it's always nice to get a better understanding of what the scriptures are saying. The only problem I have with this Bible is that they don't highlight in red when Jesus speaks. But that's okay. I'm just glad to have something I can study the word with and have a close relationship with the Lord. Thank you Jesus! Amen.
