Excellent coffee maker for 1 or 2 people
This is the best-sized coffee maker I've ever had. It makes the right amount of coffee for me, the components are small and easy to clean, and the coffee taste is excellent. It's taking the place of my Cuisinart 12-cup coffee maker, also a good one, but bigger than I need or want, except for the occasional times when I need larger coffee quantities. I value the extra counter space I've saved. Both coffee makers use the same filters. My main criticism is that I can barely read the measuring marks on the water reservoir, and they don't look nearly as clear as the ones shown in the online images. I've stopped trying to add water while using the measuring lines, but instead measure with the measuring cup.I miss the brewing completion chime of the Cuisinart unit, but I bought a sand timer that I like to see and use instead. It may be the only one that has a time that matches this coffee maker's brew time for a full pot:Soffee Design 6-Minute Hourglass.http://www.amazon.com/dp/B08ZCXQFXN?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1I like clocks and timepieces, so this was an easy choice for me.My routine for making coffee, if it can help anybody else:1) Fill the carafe with hot tap water.2) Using a measuring cup, add cold water to the reservoir: use 1 measure each of 300ml + 400ml to fill it to the max mark.3) Pour the still-warm tap water from the carafe into the coffee-drinking mug, and also into a cup for measuring milk.4) Add coffee grounds to the filter in the filter basket.5) Put the filter basket onto the carafe and place in the brewer.6) Start the coffee brewing process.7) Start the timer.8) Heat milk in the microwave oven for 20 seconds.9) Add the milk to the carafe when the brewing is complete. This coffee maker recommended. Great for 1 or 2 people.

Drip coffee maker
Bonavita has made a very nice looking and practical drip coffee maker suitable for a small household of 2 o3 people. The unit is simple to set up since everything that's needed is provided by the vendor. First of all, the unit should be cleaned by running 2 or 3 pots of water through the coffee maker. Just fill the water tank to it's maximum level, place the stainless steel carafe with the unit that will hold the coffee, place the carafe under the coffee makers exit spout and turn on with the only switch and shortly the water in the tank is running water through the system cleaning it. I t turns itself off when the "brewing" is done. Pour the liquid from the carafe out, wait 5 minutes and repeat 2 o3 times with 5 minutes between cleaning to allow the elements to cool down and you are finished and ready to actually brew coffee. The product of the brewing cycle is quite hot, so be careful. You remove the carafe, screw on the accessory lid and pour your brew. My main complaint is that the maximum brew is just enough to fill 2 1/2 standard US cups of 8 oz/cup. If you use smaller cups, of course, the product goes further. It takes only 5 minutes or so to brew the coffee so you can brew a second pot while drinking the first but that's why this unit is best suited for a solo or duo household. Bonavista does sell an 8 cup version but that's not this one.and even an 8 cup version will not go very much further, I fear. This unit can pre-infuse the coffee grounds prior to actual brewing which may enhance the richness of the coffee. As far as I can tell, there's no way to program this coffee maker for any other than immediate use. The vendor supplies a small package of cone shaped Melita paper filters which I bypass by using my own metallic permanent filter. They also give the user a small package of cleaner and descaler which they say should be used periodically depending upon the hardness of the water used for brewing. This coffee maker is made of a combo of stainless steel and heavy duty plastic which should last for a while. All in all, this coffee maker looks good, produces a moderate level of good tasting brew and should be sturdy enough to last. Mostly recommended. My main complaint is that the amount of coffee produced at maximum is barely 2+ cups of coffee and certainly not 5 cups as advertised except if you employ very small cups. The coffee brewing takes 5 to 7 minutes so if you are willing to wait larger amount can appear. Not what I hoped for. Good flavorful brew just not enough.

Makes a perfect cup of coffee.
The size is perfect for one or two cups. It brews fairly quickly and is HOT when you pour it in your cup. I have used them (I just bought my third) for about a decade.

suggestion, not a complaint
I bought this Bonavita coffee maker after researching many high-end models — and I have to say, the taste is excellent. It brews smooth, rich coffee, noticeably better than my old machine. I was happy with the purchase overall... until I discovered a surprising design flaw in the carafe. After multiple uses and washings, I realized that the top plastic part of the carafe retains water (or coffee) inside its internal curves, even when left upside down for hours to dry. The water stays trapped and won’t drain easily — or at all. This concerns me because residual moisture in a sealed plastic area could lead to bacteria or mold over time.I’ve attached a photo I took after leaving the carafe upside down for more than 5 hours. As you can see, water remains trapped in the top piece. If Bonavita can redesign this part to drain fully, this would easily be a five-star product. But for now, I think future buyers should be aware of this issue — especially those who care about hygiene and full drainage in kitchen gear.

My Favorite Coffeemaker
This is my third Bonavita 5-cup coffee maker. The first one lasted less than a year because I did not follow the instructions to descale it regularly. The second one was still working fine after eight years of daily use, but the carafe was beginning to leak, and it seemed to take longer to brew. Of all the machines on the market, this one seems to come closest to a true pour-over function, heating and spraying only a few ounces of water two or three times a minute. It even has an option to do a brief initial pour to trigger the "bloom" that brings out the flavor of newly roasted and freshly ground beans and then pausing before continuing the pour-over. It is also an ideal size for pour-over brewing, which works best with less than five cups.
