This will be my second time owning a Vivosun 8" Inline fan and also my last time. About 14 months ago I purchased this unit and it worked great for around 5-6 months until one day I was getting out of the shower and hear a loud horrible grinding sound.... scary loud coming from my basement where I had this unit in use 24/7 in my grow room. I ran down and instantly shut this fan off and took of the ducting and as you can see in the pictures i provided the center METAL screw that holds the PLASTIC fan in place wore out and because of this the fan motor was grinding trying to turn the fan when it was brought up solid against the inner wall of the unit. Now because it did work good up until this point and because i already had everything all setup for 8" - example my duct my boosters and my charcoal filter was all 8" i decided to get another Vivosun 8" Inline fan..... WELL I made my 2nd purchase of this unit on March 20, 2020 this year and just the other day the exact same thing happened. This is a very serious problem which could have resulted in a major fire if I had not of been home when the fan stopped spinning and grinding to the point of overheating. This is a serious design flaw HOWEVER i will give vivosun credit because i do own 3 of their 6" inline fans that I use for my 1000 watt hps air cooled reflectors and none of them have had this happen and i have had all 3 of those run continuously for nearly 2 years with no sign of slowing down. So I will not tell you what to do as I will only tell you what happened in my experience with 2 of this units however I will tell you that if I purchase another 8" inline fan if will not be of this brand.

I purchased the blower to boost A/C air flow to my upstairs bedroom. instead of putting it in the duct, I simply put it in my bedroom to pull the air. Even though the house has 6" ducts, I purchased the 8" blower to move more air. and it does move the air. I considered buying a second A/C for my bedroom, but this was a cheaper solution and probably better than running a smaller less efficient A/C. I have it on a temp control switch and it works great. I used to have to set the first floor to 68 degrees to get my bedroom to 74. I HATED freezing all summer only to allow my wife to sleep at night. Now, it keeps my bedroom 1-2 degrees cooler than the first floor. it's awesome. However, it is loud. Very loud. Painfully loud. Even at the lowest setting it's loud. it's impossible to keep it on when I'm in the room. Even when I'm downstairs, it's loud--although you only really notice how loud when it turns off, and you can enjoy the quiet. Fortunately, cools my bedroom off so well, that when I retire, I simply turn it off for the night.
