This kite string reel is a welcome solution to the old spindle of wadded kite string. The included string is heavy test, a bright greenish yellow and there's plenty of it. This reel isn't perfect however: The plastic is a bit rigid and by nature feels more brittle than other plastics. I am not going to test it, but it feels as though it will break and or chip if you drop the reel from a modest height onto a hard surface. Also, and this is perhaps most crucial, the reel's string guide while handy is fixed in place, so as your reel in your kite, the retracting string keeps piling on itself, which eventually can cause a tangle. I've noticed this start to happen and have had to adjust the string's path in order to keep the tangles at bay. A less cautious user will no doubt encounter tangles and frustration. A better design, one with a reciprocating string guide would alleviate this issue and would be worth a few extra dollars it might add to the price. It's definitely keeping this product from 5 stars, and given the brittle plastic, one could argue it is a 3 star product, but if you're careful it should be relatively lohng lasting and frustration free.

Poorly spooled, without consideration of (a LOT of) twisting in the line, and uncontrollable in strong wind as a result. The line was spooled in the opposite direction the line wanted to fall in and is impossible to work with in gusty conditions. Loss of tension can quickly pop line off track and create a problem on the ground, the added torsion WILL ruin flight path if a strong gust adds enough tension. If you don't mind fighting these issues it's fine for casual use, but I plan to re-spool it

Love this as it makes kite flying easy. Ot comes with 1000 feet of string which is plenty enough. Its durable, really functional and easy to use and assemble. I highly recommend it.

This kite reel is perfect. It is the perfect size. The string has good abraision resistance and lubricity. The plastic is nice and thick and the colors are cool. Performs great. It has a fishing style eye at the end so reels in quick! There is a plastic lock sort of like a deadlock on a door. If you want to slow the release tou just run your thumb on the outer rim. Super easy for kids to figure out and use on their own. No tangles or knots ever again!!! Awesome!!!

It might be ok for a smaller kite but almost impossible to work a larger kite
