My brain is working much better after making changes suggested in the book.My brain was "broken" being only 22 years old...Despite, exercising, meditating, socializing, and consuming what I thought was a clean and healthy diet, I couldn't figure out why I was struggling with symptoms of ADD, Dementia, and Depression (I never got officially diagnosed, but I can promise you I had all of those symptoms)...I am going to be going through this book one more time to really internalize the information and I see myself coming back to this book again and again and again for the rest of my life.Out of all the books, self-help products/seminars, online courses... This book, IF YOU FOLLOW IT'S RECOMMENDATIONS, will radically change your life. I've lost weight, my memory has improved, I have more energy, and overall feel better. But information acquired, but not applied, is a waste of your time!So, if you're addicted to the Standard American Diet, and refuse to change, don't waste your time. But if you genuinely wish to avoid early onset dementia, Alzheimers, reverse diabetes, restore your memory and energy; reading and applying the information in this book will be the best thing you've ever done for your health and wellness.

This book opened my eyes and changed my life. It is astounding how quickly your body can and will heal itself when you feed your body Whole Foods and the proper supplements. Take out the bad and add the good and you can't go wrong. I went from a size 12 to a healthy size 4 in three months. I seldom have headaches now, I am more level headed, I have more energy, focus, and drive. I don't wake up tired or get sluggish in the afternoon. I would recommend this book to anyone. Dr. Hyman knows what he is talking about. If you put in the work you will reap the rewards.

As a Certified Holistic Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist as well as a nurse, I even found the level of technical information challenging. I felt like I was back in Nursing School! With that being said, I don't want to through the baby out with the bathwater. There is crucial information hidden among the technical stuff. For anyone who has a dysfunctional brain or loves someone who does, this is life-changing information.

This book is my #1 favorite diet book that deals with genetics, health and moods. The title is deceptive as it goes into so much more than depression and anxiety. It would be a very helpful book for someone that needs to learn more about different ailments, esp genetic causes and diet that cause or worsen a petson's symptoms.Dr Hymen has helped people turn around or lessen symptoms of dementia, alzheimers, Parkinson's, Autism etc. He has aldo helped kids improve behavioral problems and get off Ritalin.Definitely worth the read. I had a hard time putting the book down. Excellent info!

About 14 months ago, my body just decided to shutdown. Hindsight, it had been a long time coming with symptoms ranging from sleep problems, hair loss, GI issues and memory problems. I didn't think twice about any of them until 14 months ago. My weight shot up by 15 pounds in 3 weeks, my vision was blurry, my joints/muscles would not recover, I couldn't sleep, but was exhausted, my brain was functioning poorly, I was irritable, sad, angry, gassy, bloated and about 20 other issues. So I went to my doctor. First "diagnosis" (mind you no labs were done or offered)..it was my age. I was 32. Second diagnosis, I was overeating. WRONG! This all happened when I was in peak condition. I was training for a weightlifting competition and was eating better than ever and stronger than ever (until the crash). Third diagnosis, PCOS (no labs done). Fourth diagnosis, hypothyroidism. And on and on and on. I diagnosed myself with adrenal fatigue and decided to take a big ol' long break from the gym and allow myself to sleep as much as I wanted. That, alone, made me feel loads better. For six months, I allowed myself lto sleep as much as possible. Thank goodness for Google! I was also on a birth control pill, which, in hindsight, only exacerbated everything. Finally saw a naturopath who did a lot of lab work and basically told me to rest, eat well, take supplements and enjoy life. I thought there was some validity, but wasn't seeing fast results. Went to yet another doctor. Back to the stupid PCOS diagnosis and within 10 minutes the doctor was prescribing me 5 medications. I was totally done at this point. I started self-treating with loads of supplements (more than 20 different supplements a day). It is a slow progression, but things are looking better.I found this book while looking for ways to manage my depression. What a godsend this book has been. Not only has it reiterated everything I thought to be true, but it gives valuable advice and background information. This is definitely a revolutionary way of thinking that may cause some to be uncomfortable as it goes against everything we know to be true (or at least fed to us) and causes us to lose faith in a big portion of our medical community. All I can say is, stop drugging yourself up, read this book and get your body back on track. It is ridiculously slow process and patience is necessary. You have to be very mindful to tiny improvements. For me, I noticed my hair stopped falling out as much, I could fall asleep normally (and stay asleep) and about a week ago, I stopped needing naps! I am now going to include other supplements recommended by Dr. Hyman. I can't recommend this book enough. You are not unfixable and you do not need a label. You need to find the imbalances in your body and balance them. Simple as that.

I have a number of chronic long term health conditions and have read so many books by various American integrated medicine doctors. What I always struggle with is the highly restrictive diets they recommend for people who are already unwell and struggling. I thought this book was excellent and just made so much sense to me.

I don’t often leave reviews but this book is excellent and just what I needed for n order to get off anti-depressants with a safety net. I wish all doctors knew to advise us about the natural ways to cure our bodies and minds. Sadly, they don’t. I could have done with this book 20 years ago but I’m happy I have it now.

Great book. Feel much better after applying some things I learned in here.

A must read for Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Neuroscientists, Endocrinologists and anyone who prescribes pharmacological interventions regularly. There are other ways !
