German nib. Origin not disclosed for the rest of the pen. Converter is not THREADED it's PUSH IN
By the manuf. description, the nib is German, but no word on the actual pen’s county of origin. I looked everywhere on the product. Some reviews online from other social media sites indicate made in China or assembled somewhere in Asia with Chinese parts. Can’t confirm with my own pen. It’s not a super expensive pen, but I didn’t want to pay over $100 for Chinese made. My pen is assembled and synchronized perfectly. It’s beautiful and it writes very well. I will use it often, it’s worth keeping. Edit: The converter is not THREADED!! Even tho the description states that, and someone in one of the reviews says to unscrew the converter, you don't need to do that. The converter is the PUSH IN kind. I got two of these pens to prove it. Conklin is not very good at creating item descriptions and in the past the converter used to be threaded. They went with push in to save money, but it works just the same and makes the pen internationally compatible. The pens are so beautiful and well made I bought a second one.

Resin Coloring May Vary But These Are Lovely
I ordered two Conklin 1898s, both in Misto Green (M nibs). I knew from reviews here, and having previously seen one IRL, that the resin coloration would be highly variable. As you can see from the photo, one of mine leans green, and the other leans red. I think they're beautiful and will be keeping both of them, since each is unique. I have inked them up with Birmingham Wilted Thicket and Monteverde Rose Noir, respectively, and both pens write very smoothly, with no scratchiness. Note that the included converters are threaded and you must unscrew them to remove them; you can't just pop them out like you can with other converters. I have a medium (female) size hand and find them comfortable to write with. The caps may be posted but not very securely, and that creates too much imbalance for me. I hope this comparison of the same model and colorway is helpful to you.

Beautiful Pen
Good pen. A bit large for my hand but such a beauty. Holds lots of ink.

Don’t buy if you plan to write with it
Looks great overall but the QC is not there for a $100 pen and it writes very poorly. A cosmetic nitpick is that the clip should be lines up with the 1898 logo but it’s off center. However, the writing experience is atrocious. False starts and skips so frequent that it’s almost not useable. I’ve tried it with a couple different inks, with cartridge and with converter. Doesn’t matter. I have to shake it to get ink to flow. Save your money. I have a $10 pen from China that writes beautifully. I won’t buy another Conklin.

Great pen, see photos and review
I have several Conklin pens, no problems with them. 1. The orange Misto I received has a lot of blue in it, they are ALL different, and they are never going to look like the stock photo. That’s what makes each one unique. 2. If the nib feels too scratchy you might be pressing too hard, or try a wetter ink. 3. You can, buy Conklin replacement nibs in different sizes on eBay or directly from the Conklin website (Yafa brands). 4. If you don’t like it, just return it. It’s all personal preference… you can find something else you might like better. I got mine as someone’s ‘return’ on Amazon for $42, that’s a great price, and it writes perfectly.

not an explosion of color
I was drawn to this pen because of the explosion of color in it. As others have noted, the actual pen is not as brilliant looking. The best way I can describe it is to take a light brown filter and put it over the pictures. It is more of a subtle coloring, muddy even. The pen is still quite pretty and the embellishments are very lux. I got a good discount on Amazon, so I will keep it, but if I had to pay full price, it would have gone back.

I love it,... perfect weight and girth. Beautiful colors!... The Nib was very tight, it was causing to skip alot,...I tuned the nib, it flows perfectly for me!...

Not the best experience.
There is no doubt the absolute beauty of this pen. I love the design very much as well as the size when it’s posted. Comfortable in the hand, and feels good. I so so so wanted to love this pen. I had ordered the FINE TIP, and upon receiving, it was very scratchy and not a pleasurable experience. I kept giving it chance after chance, yet its roughness wouldn’t go away. I then ordered a medium nib which made a better difference, but kept getting hard starts and skipping. If this was a cheaper pen, perhaps in the $20 range, I really wouldn’t have cared, but it’s not. It was over $100 and to be so dissatisfied well, I just can’t verify its cost. Again, BEAUTIFUL looking pen, but the main purpose, it’s writing, left me wanting. Hate doing this kind of review, and generally don’t give negative reviews, but there ya go.

I returned it. The color was dull, very different from the bright colors.of the pen in the photos.
