ATTENTION! If it's Used-Like new, you DON'T get support, warrantly or the 1Yr Armor from Netgear
I am still evaluating if this is a good product. What is clear to me is that the premium price you are paying is not for the support. I decided to save some money by buying the product from Amazon Resale in a used, "Like new" state. I set up the device quickly, as I was familiar with the configuration from upgrading from another, much older Orbi product. The product is fine, but WiFi 7 is not yet revolutionary (even with a WiFi 7 receiver), and for the rest, you get the usual Orbi product. Not super performance or incredible range, but consistency and a constant signal across the area covered by the mesh. Could it be better or faster with another product (i.e. Eero Max 7)? Probably yes, but Orbi is about reliability. Perhaps the only annoyance is the booting time - it has a bug where, if you restart it, it fails to re-query the DHCP server to retrieve the IP address assigned to the WAN port for over 20 minutes (possibly longer) unless you unplug and replug the cable. However, it's one of those things that might be fixed in the future or by setting a static IP address (although I didn't try). Additionally, even if the device was "Used - Like New", it had not been reset. So I had to reset it. Acceptable. What I found puzzling is that it was impossible to register the product with Netgear when I set it up because it was already associated with another account (probably the previous owner). From there, it becomes a very scarce service for £ 1,600, essentially. You have to open a ticket on their system, which is extremely difficult because the system defaults to only allowing tickets for registered products. So, only by the web mobile interface is there a path, starting from the failed registration, that will enable you to open a ticket to get a product registered. The entire matter was resolved within a week. After when you see your device registered, you realise that you don't have any priority service nor any service chat or warranty available, and the 1yr armour requires payment now (roughly £50 with an introductory offer). The support says, almost verbatim, "You bought a used product? Now you are on our own!". It is not entirely unreasonable, but for a mark-up of £1600 on a 'Like New' product, I found it a bit unacceptable. Now Amazon is doing its best, offering me their support and the possibility to return it to buy a new one. However, when you are targeting this level of product, you want to be considered a bit more by the manufacturer. Registering a product that is used but essentially new and is still sold and fully supported should give you some initial priority support. For 2-3 years? Okay, it's used, but at least 6 months? And the 1-year armour in the headline is also misleading because it is not included. While I am not generally dissatisfied with the product (note: not blown away either), I might decide to return it. However, at this point, I might try another brand to move towards WiFi 7 because it is clear that the product and the service you get from it are massively overpriced. If that happens, I will lower it to 2 stars.
