This is a translation of an oldish notebook of cake "recipes", written, by an anonymous individual, in arabic and french, which the author-translator found in a second hand bookshop. The word recipes are in inverted commas, because they are not recipes, but lists of ingredients. These were presumably useful to the individual who wrote them down, but are, without instructions, useless to everybody else. That is, this is not a cookery or food book, but a curiosity of history. To add insult to injury, the book is filled up with photographs of pseudo-avant-garde "art".
