OK - so I read other reviews and came into this purchase already critical of the product. But I wanted to give it a try since there arent many Dual Hose Portable air conditioners out there. This is what I wanted because I wanted to use it in my camper and the dual hose makes it much more efficient to cool down something that isnt very air tight (look this up if you dont know the benefit of dual hose). Thinking this thing would not work, or immediately throw error codes, I decided to try it out in my ~1200 sq ft living room before throwing out the packaging or brigning it on a camping trip. And it did the job, it wasn't as good as central AC but it kept the room comfortable in July/August heat (~90F). It worked so well it never made it into my travel trailer, and spent the entire summer cooling my living room. Now - fall and winter have arrive and I know a heat pump uses less energy than burning my furnace, so why not give it a go. THIS THING HEATS! I cant believe how well it heats my first floor, now when its 15F outside you have to lower your expectations, but in the mid 30s and 40s it heats the whole room. I am sold that this is now a part of my living room. Some little things to consider: When in AC mode it drips the condensate on the lower heat exchanger, so it evaporates and is blown outside (another dual hose benefit) so I never had to drain it. But in heat mode the exchangers are in reverse, so the condensate drips into the pan and it throws E5 errors after about 30-60 minutes. Just drain the pan with the lower drain plug (but that becomes a pain), so position this somewhere you can run a drain hose. The drain can be finicky so sometimes it needs a little help getting the water moving out the hose - I put a small piece of wood under the front wheels to tilt it back to help with this and it will run all day. Summary: Dont expect this to cool/heat your large home - but it does a fine job either in smaller spaces or supplimenting something else (in my case a wood stove in the winter, or a window AC somewhere in the opposite side of the house). Dual Hose is the biggest upside to this unit, it is insanely more efficient than a single hose unit. Take the risk - I cant speak for all of them - but at this price its a very affordable entry into a combo AC/Heat Pump unit.

First the good - for a refurbished unit, I was pretty pleased with the quality. Very minor cosmetic issues on one of the plastic pieces that you place in the window that the hoses connect to. Otherwise, it was as close to new as you can get. It's also pretty easy to install. Took me maybe 10 minutes. Plugged it in and it ran just fine. Air was blowing out at around 53°F. The bad - the claim of being able to cool a 550 sq ft room is either a typo or a lie. After running the unit for several hours and the temperature in the room falling only several degrees, I did a little research into the BTU SACC rating of this unit. Costco has a very similar Hisense 8000 BTU unit, and the coverage area states it's good for 350 sq ft. There is absolutely no way this thing can cool a 550 sq ft room. It just can't keep up. You'd need, mathematically, at least an 11000-12000 BTU SACC rating. I should have done more homework before purchasing. But if you're reading this, at least now you won't have to repeat my mistake. Overstating the coverage area by roughly 37% is inexcusable. Now I have to Tetris this thing back into the packaging and lug it down to whole foods to return it. Just an absolute pain in the neck. Or I guess more of a pain in the back, because this thing isn't exactly light. Update: Well I've had it for one full day, and the unit simply displays 81. I believe this is an error code for a faulty indoor temp sensor. What a piece of garbage this unit has turned out to be.

I should post this on the main (new) listing as this is for the used model I bought. As with many buying these, I couldn't put a regular window AC in because the last renovator of this mobile home put in a horizontal sliding window in the bedroom; strangely, the other windows are all vertical sliders that would work fine. In addition the bedroom is to the west & poorly insulated so the central AC just can't keep up in our 115F+ Arizona temps! This is oversized for the tiny bedroom but with the door shut even so damn hot in the afternoon outside the air coming out of this thing is ICE COLD! I actually have to turn it off at times! At night, I keep the bedroom door closed & the central AC high or off & it's so awesome! (I'm a day sleeper/ graveyard worker so trying to sleep while part of the wall gets almost too hot to touch can be difficult... 2 major down sides but they may not matter to you: first, this isn't a newer inverter type so it's either on or off, no in between. The compressor is crazy quiet, I have to put my ear close to hear it except when shutting off when it makes a loud "thunk" and shakes the whole unit! (I hope that's normal); unfortunately the fans are louder than they say, a problem when your trying to sleep with it a foot or 3 from your head. The outside fan turns o/o with the compressor while the inside fan runs constantly except right before compressor restart when everything shuts off for a few seconds. This is a real problem with trying to sleep! What has been working for me lately is leaving it running on low fan speed & lowest temp (61F): it never shuts off & the bedroom stays cold no matter how hot it is outside. The 2nd problem is the weird firmware: you need to jump through hoops to get it to behave the way you want. I'm guessing frustration over this is the reason so many of these units got returned, but they can be worked around. First, the remote control has some exclusive functions like making the flap move & lock where you want, so DON'T LOSE IT!!! The remote & unit seem to be transferring a block of data that overwrites all the variables in the unit, similar to how many Ham radios are programmed. You can override some of this on the unit temporarily, but the remote is the boss. The unit also doesn't remember settings when changing modes so you have to start over again with setting temp, air flap, etc; also some button positions on the remote make it too easy to accidentally change stuff especially modes: this gets frustrating & will piss you off in a hurry (at least it did me). I basically had to train myself to do things the way the unit expects. Once you get the hang of it, it's ok. This DOES have heat pump aka reverse mode (tested). May leave it hooked up next winter (it can drop to freezing here sometimes; it's a desert after all). Down side over a regular electric heater is NOISE but the efficiency may be too much to ignore. If you live in a cold & wet area be sure to follow the drain directions, but so far in AC mode I haven't had to drain it so the advertised evaporation function in AC mode is legit, at least for here. Finally, inrush current is enough to dim the lights when the compressor starts; again, hopefully nothing wrong but I bought insurance being a used AC (double whammy, but still way cheaper than new). Watts-Up during testing gave under a kW once pressure built up; by comparison by fridge is a bit over 100W while my central AC is 3kW according to my power bill (not running the stove in summer & the water heater gets barely any use), seemingly implying that this AC is a lot less efficient; but wow does it work!

I have no complaint it works really well for me. The Heater gives a E5 error after 5 mins for me. all you have to do is drain the plug at the bottom from my research that works. there were complaints from other persons about water leaking from bottom when the heater is used. I only experienced the leak when I elevate the device for better drainage or if i lift it when it's full, I have tile so if i roll it slowly there is no spill, makes sense because there is only a tray holding the water like a refrigerator does. I also did research and found that there are pumps that made to drain portable AC units also Amazon sells them are "condensate pump" so I'm going to buy one to resolve the heater and water issue. I haven't figured out how to get it to work with my smartphone yet, none of the Hisense apps worked that I tried and yeah that's a bummer but not enough to to give it 1 les stars it works fine with the remote it came with, for me being a techy it would've upped the cool factor, pun intended.

The dual hose design is the big difference. One hose brings in exterior air to the unit while the second hose exhausts air to exterior. Therefore there is no "vacumn" created as is the case with a single exhaust only unit. (With a single hose unit hot air from the compressor/coil is exhausted to the exterior BUT this forces non-airconditioned exterior air to have to "Sneek in" to make up for the exhausted air. This air "makeup" happens to offset the "vacumn" created by the exhausting of the hot air thru the single hose.) WITH THIS TWO HOSE UNIT THE AIR INTO THE UNIT COOLS THE HOT COMPRESSOR AND THEN IS EVACUATED FROM WITHIN THE UNIT TO THE EXTERIOR. THE AIR THAT THE CIRCULATING FAN/ BLOWER MIXES IN THE ROOM DOES NOT INTERACT WITH THE AIR IN-OUT OF THE COMPRESSOR SIDE. THIS TWO HOSE MODEL IS QUIET, HAS A REMOTE, AND IS EASY TO INSTALL IN A HORIZONTAL OR VERTICAL SLIDING WINDOW. I INSTALLED MINE IN A SINN ROOM WITH PATIO DOORS WHICH MEANT CUTTING A PIECE OF BOARD ABOUT 12" WIDE X THE HEIGHT OF THE PATIO DOOR, CUTTING OUT WITH A JUG SAW AN OPENING IN THE PIECE OF WOOD TO RECEIVE THE PLASTIC A/C HOSE FRAME THAT IS SUPPLIED, THEN CLOSING THE PATIO DOOR UPTO THE 12"WIDE BOARD AND ATTACHING THE HOSES TO THE HOSE FRAME THAT IS SCREWED INTO THE PIECE OF WOOD. I USED ADHESIVE BACKED WEATHERSTRIPPING TO FILL THE VERTICAL OPENING WHERE THE DOOR AND WOOD TOUCHED TO ELIMINATE EXTERIOR AIR FROM LEAKING IN. I NOW HAVE AN AIR CONDITIONED SUN ROOM OF 10 FT X 19 FT THAT IS VERY COOL IN SUMMER... IN SOUTH FLORIDA! (THIS IS A SIMPLE PROJECT ANY HANDYMAN CAN DO)

I got this for a semi insulated 12x14 room in my garage that I wanted to use as a home gym. Living in TN, i wanted a boost to keep things comfortable in both summer and winter. The AC function works better than the heat but it is not great - has to run for at least 60 mins to lower the temp by 10 degrees. The heat is basically useless. It never really blows “hot” air; with digital temp gun it usually reads in mid 50 degrees. And the fan only blows sporadically - cycling off after less than a minute over and over. It doesn’t even raise the temp by 5 degrees in over 2 hrs, so useless for my purposes. I tried to reach out to customer service but they basically wear you down by attrition asking you one verification/clarification question at a time by email over and over without ever addressing your actual issue. I was even less inclined to reach out to their phone line since I was looking for technical support that I highly doubted a phone operator would be able to provide. I should have just spent more $ and gotten a mini split heat pump system

The heat pump arrived in a light new condition. It is working great at this point, but I am only 10 days into the trial. One drawback, it had no instructions at all.
