Jesus Christ Superstar and Black Sabbath
I'm not a Deep Purple fan, although I do respect what they've done for the music landscape. This autobiography was interesting, with a lot of good stories about Gillan's life. I was especially interested in his time with Black Sabbath, and what an awful person Blackmore really was.

It answered some of my questions
I've recently started listening to Deep Purple (I know--where have I been?) so decided to read Ian Gillan's autobiography. I mainly wanted to find out why he and Ritchie Blackmore didn't get along, as well as just learn more about this singer. No spoilers, but my questions were answered. Ian writes like he is talking to you over a cup of tea, in a very easy-going, conversational way. It did get bogged down a bit when he started talking about his business ventures outside of music, and could have used a bit of editing, but otherwise some good information about him and the bands he's been in (if you don't know anything about him and his bands). I enjoyed it a lot.

Ian should stick to the things people want to know about!
We all know what goes on in the rock and roll world...the antics, drink, sex and drugs so why include it here. I purchased this book to learn more about Gillan the artist, his musical experiences etc. I found the first half of this book as boring as you can get. If you have not a lot to say don't pad it out with utter crap. However, it got better and was insightful to some extent.

Good read.
The life of Ian weaving in and out of Deep Purple for decades. Failed entrepreneur, his side jobs didn't ever make him money. His laid back lifestyle and taste for whiskey and beer probably didn't help in his failed successes. (Other than writing lyrics and over the top singing.)

A very funny and entertaining book from the awesome lead singer of Deep Purple!
I really enjoyed this book. Ian definitely has a sense of humor, and the book comes across more as a chat with a friend than most other autobiographies seem to. I need to find my copy and read it a second time, and I almost never do that. Highly recommended if you are a Deep Purple fan.

How did arguably the greatest voice in Rock N Roll actually become a singer?
The main point he didn't discuss was how he became a singer. Even if totally naturally gifted he would've needed to train and practice. Was he an annoying to parents "shower" singer or learned through school or church choir? As is explained in the book he turned up for band practice one day.

Interessant und unterhaltsam
Die Biographie ist unterhaltsam geschrieben und gibt interessante Einblicke in die damaligen Machenschaften der Musikindustrie, die sich wohl bis heute nicht geändert hat.

Great insight into Purple and Gillan
I had this book previously, but lost it on a move. So, I had to replace it for the collection. It's an excellent read. Lots of insight. Kind of a "bird's-eye view" into Purple (first and foremost), but also into Gillan and his other projects. The part where Ian describes the first "audition / rehearsal" with the MkII lineup makes the hair on the back of yer neck stand on end . . . you can almost smell the tubes in the Marshall's glowing hot. Well worth the purchase. Great for Purple fans!!

A great biography on a great vocalist from a great band
I've not actually read it yet but I'm excited too. I bought it twice ( a copy for a friend, who like me is a massive Deep Purple fan).I've heard from my friend that it is a very good read.Deep Purple are undoubtedly a fantastic band great live and also amazing at producing live and studio albums.Ian Gillan is the best voice for Purple by far. His voice is so unique. He's obviously going to have lots to say about his own band (The Ian Gillan Band) as well as Purple and Sabbath and many other bands that are linked and associated to Deep Purple. Plus I'm sure there will be humour thrown in and info on his home life and touring. He is a very creative and talented vocalist and I'm looking forward to reading this biography on him.

Big Gillan Fan. I found it interesting but not especially an easy read. I still think it's worth reading if you are a fan .

Half good half boring
The first part of Ian Gillan's book was most interesting but I found the rest of the book rather boring, too many details, etc.
