If you occasionally cut your self in mean preparation these are a good way to prevent that from happening. The kit comes with several pieces that you can use. They work well. Good investment.

These are just another example of a kitchen gimmick that seems good when you see it but fails miserably in practice. For something like a cucumber that lies a little flatter on the cutting board, they would work ok but you don't really need it for that. For something like a completely round onion, they don't hold it at all and that's what you really need. I probably need some practice and will try again but I was totally disappointed. Even the one with the teeth doesn't hold well. I'll keep working on it but I feel like it was a waste of money.

I liked the idea of protecting my fingers since I still don't have the hang of chopping like professional chefs.But, I find the guards don't stay in place on fingers and make chopping more difficult. Like I said, it just may be me being awkward.
