Great first person accounts
I love reading and seeing the then and now pictures. Which with the fact that there isn’t that many physical structures to compare photos of on the Falkland Islands, the pictures are still interesting. However! This book contains a lot of first person accounts from personnel on both the UK and Argentine sides. And for that fact, I highly recommend this book. Maybe the best book on the Falklands war that I’ve read.

This is the Best All-Around Book on the Falklands War
I have read almost all of the books in English covering the Falklands (Islas Malvinas) War. While Nick van der Bijl's books might have a bit more detail on the land war than this one, it is by far the best all-around book available. It is actually two books. The captions for the pictures give the history of the conflict as described by the editor. I found tidbits of information here that are not covered anywhere else. The main text is an oral history from the people who experienced it. This includes not only the soldiers, sailors and airmen, but the Kelpers and even a few wives/widows.The collection of pictures is truly amazing. It is an over-sized book (and heavy) and there are pictures on every page. The editor has contacted many of the veterans themselves and obtained the rights to use the photos they took during the war. Photos of many of the planes are included as well as their crash sites if they happened to hit the ground at a high rate of speed. There are pictures of many of the men who died as well as their gravestones. The "Then and Now" portion of the title reflects the editor's attempts to find the location where the original photographs were taken and show the current (2006) view. Some parts of the Falklands have changed significantly and others not at all. The maps are first rate also. The book is expensive, no doubt about it. But if you have any interest in the Falklands War or military history this book is worth every penny (and a bargain on shipping, it must weigh ten pounds). I am glad I found this book towards the end of my studies as it would have made reading the other works on this war much less enjoyable.

Good Book
Another point of view this part of history, many people from both country are and were marked for this event; and the search of what's happened there? Is a lighthouse in his life.Great product, very good and incredible photografic book, with places and events where part of our history was developed, and also a great recognition to all those men and women who fougth there

Falkland Island War 1982
Excellent, Excellent,Excellent. This is one of those have to have books from cover to cover. This book is large book chock full of photo's and written with passion by Mr Ramsey who has turned out many other great books on the Channel Islands, Arnhem (which I own). With out giving it away the author covers everything needed to understand the battles and history.Price is high but well worth it.

A master pice
Must be one of the best books about the Falklands war. With over 600 pages, this is one large and heavy book. I have a lot of books about the war. But this one gives a much better understanding of what happened there.

This is an absolutely brillant book
This is an amazing book the amount of research done is staggering, each picture of then and now is accompanied by interviews of the veterans from the British and Argentinian armed forces giving a balanced view of what it was like for the men on both side who were actually there.

What could have been
I like AFTB books, I have several and have used them all and got a great deal from them. Which is what makes this one all the more disappointing. Each day is dealt with individually, including the build-up – so far so good. I like the idea of personal reminiscences, it adds a human touch and gives you a good idea what it was like “on the ground” and in the thick of it. But that’s where it starts to go wrong. There isn’t a proper narrative as such, just following people through their experiences. Then we get on to the illustrations. What makes ATB publications stand out and arguably, what makes them so expensive, is the fantastic illustrations and the maps. The maps here are good, it has to be said there’s nothing new here, but the photographs are well below standard, many are dark and of not much use; I know it adds to the personal narrative etc., but it detracts enormously for the quality that we’ve come to expect from this publisher.Someone has already mentioned about the lust for souvenirs that pervades the book, there are no end of pictures of medals and military papers shown of the brave people that took part and some who were sadly killed. We should remember them, but this does come across as something very unseemly and a grabbing expedition to recover as much a you can for the ATB archives.I shan’t be keeping my copy, if anyone wants it message me, and I’ll certainly think twice about buying ATB books particularly from the editor of this work.

The Falklands War Then and Now
Whilst I fully understand why some of the comments by other reviewers of a negative nature about this book concerning the authors interest in collecting items for his collection I feel that is a minor issue compared to the excellence of this mammoth volume which is a credit to the author. I feel it is a fitting book in memory of those on both sides who fell in battle during this short bloody war. I have many books on this subject and feel this is by far the best and the attention to detail is to be commended together with the many photo images most of which I have not seen before. If the Falklands war is of interest do not hesitate to buy it and if and you should be able to obtain for well under the RRP which makes it great value for money.

A well researched book
I was at first put off by the high price of this book, but having fought in the Falklands War, I bought it anyway. On arrival, I was pleasantly surprised, as it is a mamouth tome! And, I believe, worth every penny. Such a book will always be controversial, and I cannot comment on some of the less supportive reviews, but for my part, I found the book fascinating. I lost good friends down there, they are all remebered here, and that helps me come to terms with it all, even after the passage of time. I would recommend it, but am sympathetic to those who are disturbed by it.

a tremendous effort and a fitting tribute
I had returned a visit to the Falklands last November and walked many of the battle field sites. In view of this I was very keen to get a copy of this book. It follows the series' usual format and is tremendously comprehensive. I visited after most of the clearing up had occurred, but there were still remnants from 1982, so it was good to see some older photos. It certainly put the whole matter in context and it was, for me, a very timely publication. I would add that all the Islanders I spoke to were still very grateful to the efforts of the troops in liberating them from the oppressive regime that had bene imposed. The vererans are still welcomed back with open arms when they visit. All in all, a very fitting tribute-well done Mr Ramsey
