It's a little big but works well.
I wish it was smaller but it works well and the built in flashlight is a real plus.

So much better
I have gotten a lot of usage out of the voltage detector that came with my old multimeter, little did I know it could have been so much better. This one isn't that expensive but it is leaps and bounds better than old one that just had a squeeze "pen clip" to activate. Hold the power down and it turns on with a screen that shows you what setting it is on and if/how much current it is detecting. The high sensitivity mode even makes it easy to trace the current down a charging cable to check for breaks (note it doesn't work if it is plugged into a DC battery pack, only if the charger is plugged into a household AC plug). There's a light to see into dark areas, and the screen lights up red when it detects a live wire. No more wondering if it is on or has batteries, no more having to get just right to detect a current (especially in HS mode), and so much easier to use. Overall this is a must have for any homeowner, handyman, or hobbyist that wants to spare themselves the shocking discovery that the breaker box was mislabeled.

Good addition to toolbox
Convenient tool to have for trying to ensure a circuit is 'dead' before doing any work on it. Beats breaking out the multimeter where you have to fumble with the 2 leads to test the circuit. Just make sure to test it on a live circuit to ensure it is working prior to touching the circuit you are going to work on. Comes with 2 AAA batteries so it is ready to use. The bonus flashlight helped me out the other day when my light switch short circuited in the evening, and I had to work in the dark. It lit up the switch box just enough so I could see the wires were unpowered before I replaced the switch. Good for finding an open in a wire just by tracing the wire from source to end. The probe tip for sticking in a outlet opening is slightly tight so just be careful not to snap it off when testing for the hot wire. I only tested it out on both 120 and 240 V lines, so I don't know if its max range is accurate.

Excellent Detector and Higher Sensitivity Works
This non-contact AC voltage detector tester pen operates very well. The two included AAA batteries are easy to put in and the unit turns on with a one second push of the power button. The flashlight button and flashlight work well and are handy in dark spots. I tested on a number of circuits, and it performed it job appropriately. Testing it around the office, the tester would not alert until I turned on the high sensitivity button (12V to 1000V) as expected. The normal sensitivity is 48V to 1000V. I am quite happy to retire my old non-contact voltage detector, where the power button was being finicky, with this new detector.

Safety first
I always turn the circuit breaker off when I replace switches and outlets, etc...But it's always good to have a way to make sure the wires and outlet aren't live Works great around the house and the flashlight is a bonus.

Really finicky, but technically works
While I haven't used other AC voltage detectors to have a good basis for comparison, this one seems pretty bad. It does work, technically. If I press the detector directly against an insulated wire that I know has 120V AC running through it, then the beeper goes off… usually. Sometimes even then I have to futz with the angle to get it to register the signal. Turning on "high sensitivity" mode does help a bit, but only a bit.Build-quality wise the tool feels a little cheap with its plastic housing and belt clip, though I suppose when working with high voltages it's probably good to use a non-conductive material so that's forgivable. The buttons feel really mushy and hard to press. The built-in flashlight is a nice idea, but it's so dim that in practice it feels almost pointless. All that said… it's $12. For that price it's hard to expect too much, and it does work. I give it maybe a 4/5 for now.
