How heavy a painting will this hold?

This easel can hold a weight of about 10 lbs. It is lightweight.

Is this able to be painted a different color?

Yes. in fact I painted mine black and it looks great.

I am looking to display a contest promotion paper on the easel. What paper sizes do you recommend that would fit nicely?
