I don't bang my ankle,but have twisted it once or twice because it isn't supported. I still would highly recommend this boot they are sturdy and have a good sole with deep tread.

Q: Do they have any metal in them? Are they metal detector friendly?

No metal, I have never had them set off the metal detectors at my site.

Q: Can I return if worn? Hurt feet after 1 day

I think so, especially if you bought on line

These run big! I'm a 9.5. Ordered a 9.5 and I was swimming in them. I'd get a 9 or even a 8.5? I ended up giving it to my daughter's boyfriend who wears a 10.5 and it fit perfectly.
