It'll do the trick
This product is a good enough if you want to get started, as a novice/beginner, in the world of East Asian cutlery. The fit and finish is really pretty good for the price. The stainless steel isn't the greatest but it's good enough; it'll hold an edge for awhile before it needs touched up. When I got the set I used all the knives on veggies (carrots and zucchini) and meat (sliced bacon). All sliced through the bacon cleanly with one stroke, and all cut the zucchini except, ironically, the veggie cleaver. All had a little trouble withslicing through the carrot easily, but that's a tough tuber. The cleaver just needed some strokes on a fine stone and a leather strop to get it to cut like it should. For the money, this is hard to beat.

Honestly the best bargain on a knife set I've seen
Better than any starter kit you can buy. I own shun, Mac, and kiwi knives but use these as a travel back up I keep in my trunk. It's a softer steel and not a super stiff, there's a bit of flex in almost all the knives except for the petit deba. The flex is contributed to a thinner blade which gives you finer edge; therefore, giving you a very sharp feel. As long as you hand wash these, use a sharpening stone, and keep a honing steel on it, it's quite an easy knife set to maintain The stone and steel are key for maintaining a nice edge on such soft steel. For a novice cook you could start here and upgrade the knives you want. I've had them nearly a month and the paint of the handle started to flake off, which doesn't bother me much. aesthetically, they are some cheesy looking japanese styled knives, but logically the best bang for my buck I've ever encountered in my 10 years of professional cooking.
