Rollicking adventure
I found The Rules and Regulations For Mediating the Myths & Magic by complete accident while browsing the web and oh my, how didn’t I know it existed before? It is absolutely hilarious, but also deals with serious topics such as accepting oneself and finding their place in the world. I loved the combination of rollicking adventure and serious topics, and yes, occasional teenage angst. Bridger is at the age where he has to decide where to go to university and what he wants to do, and he’s struggling with it and I could easily identify with that situation – I have experienced it myself. There’s a good mix of adventure and mystery in the story. Bridger starts a new job as an assistant to eccentric Pavel Chudinov and finds out that he’s an intermediary between the human world and its myths. Bridger gets thrown into the world of myths as there’s some mysterious thing happening that Pavel tries to solve. There’s also some romantic elements since Bridger has a crush on his neighbour Leo.I love mythology and it was interesting to see how Lukens had woven different myths into the story. The plot and the twists were good, but what I loved the most was the characters. Bridger is funny and relatable, Leo’s adorable cinnamon roll, Pavel is eccentric and a good mentor for Bridger and there’s some hilarious pixies. It’s such a great and adorable adventure with wholesome characters that you just have to love.I’m eagerly anticipating the sequel, which is supposed to come out this year. I need more Bridger, Leo and pixies in my life!

that I was going to love it. What I didn't anticipate was just how ...
I knew, when I heard the title for this book, that I was going to love it. What I didn't anticipate was just how loudly I would yell when it came to an end. Wh-what do you mean it's over? Wh-why can't I have more?! In short: I love this book. It's fun, it's easy to read, it handles some incredibly delicate issues in the most touching of ways and balances them out with some laugh-out-loud hilarity and chaos, and a cast of utterly lovable characters. Everything I could have hoped for and more!

Skulduggery Pleasant-esque
"Myths are unpredictable. Magic is troublesome."* * * *4 / 5Myths & Magic is a simple, Skulduggery Pleasant-esque tale of a boy who answers a weird job offer (Craigslist, am I right?) and is dragged into a world of myths and magic. Add in a hefty dollop of teenage angst and a bisexual coming-out story and you’ve got a pleasant, easy read.“Family isn’t about blood, Bridger. It’s about who is there for you and who makes you happy”Bridger Whitt is an ordinary boy applying to out-of-state universities so he can run away from his loving mum and best friend Astrid so that he doesn’t have to come out as bisexual. He applies to a weird job offer on Craigslist and ends up as assistant to a weird bloke called Pavel who won’t tell Bridger what he does. We’ve all been there. Turns out Pavel is an intermediary between the human world and the world of myths and magic, but through a series of freak events (including Bridger being savaged by a mermaid) they seem to be drawing devastatingly closer together. Bridger is also very busy crushing on hot neighbour Leo.Myths and Magic reminded me heftily of one of my favourite ever book series, Skulduggery Pleasant; in both you have a young teen diving eagerly into a world of magic and wonder, trying to keep their lives separate and their parents in the dark. Unlike Valkyrie Cain, Bridger actually has friends (okay, one) and a hot crush. We’ve got the weird mentor figure – Pavel is grumpy but also quite sweet with a heart of gold – and the bizarre monsters – a unicorn that will only interact with virgins, an enchanting werewolf.Bridger is easy to like and the story is simple to follow. It’s got a cute gay romance, some predictable twists, a bit of angst, and all the highs and lows of teenage drama. What more could you want?

Fun cryptid adventures
This was very cute. Loved the writing style and humour. The Mythology and hero's journey is woven in well. A fun read.

Funny & Sweet
Encounters with cryptids aside, this was a very funny and dare I say, relatable story about a boy coming to terms with his bisexuality.

Charming and fun!
This is such a fun book. I loved all the characters - especially Bridger and Leo. I really like that the author doesn't go the route of making the normal, main character the secret/powerful savior of the world. Bridger is just like everybody else, he just happened to answer a Craigslist ad. Everyone felt like they were the age they were written as. I absolutely ADORE the premise and wish this book was twice as long. Not that it isn't satisfying as is, but as I said, I love the characters and the premise. I could read an entire serie about this. Or a book about Pavel! This book made me happy. I'm going to check out the other books by this author!

Like Honey
I loved this book from the very first paragraph. Lukens'writing is immersive and fun. The characters are vivid, engaging, and lifelike. Bridger is an endearing character and melds well with the supporting cast. I really like him.The teens talk like teens; even though they made popular culture references I never cringed. I also love that the author seamlessly connected with high school memories. I remember Hamlet being my favorite required reading & having the characters make reference to the work brought back great memories. I am so thankful for the ending being enjoyable, I was worried for a while.Definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a sweet, satisfying, YA read!

Love this book! F. T. Lukens is a powerhouse in this genre!
Love this book by F. T. Luken. If you like LGBTQ YA romance and fantasy, her books lead the genre! This book is easy to read and captivating, I have trouble putting her books down when I start reading them. These appear to be her first entry into the genre and you would never be able to tell! Great book for everyone!
