For ages I've always wanted to find a 'non-traditional' wood dye that offered more than your basic 'wood tones'. After doing a little research I came across Keda Wood Dyes and ordered the yellow & red to try on a long awaited project I had wanted to start and the blue dye for some future projects. I had obtained some very damaged military crates and I wanted to refurbish them in order to make an entertainment stand for my TV and gaming consoles. I wanted to try finishing one as a 'test' to see if it would be worth continuing with the others and I was more than satisfied with the results. After sanding the surfaces I used the Keda Yellow on the inside of first crate and the Keda Red on the outsides. I finished them up with some satin gloss polyurethane and the final outcome was beyond my expectations. Very easy to use (I added two tablespoons of denatured alcohol, warm water, and 1/8 teaspoon of dye powder mixed in an 8 oz. mason jar). From there I added about three to four coats on each surface and let them dry between applications. Keep in mind, using painter's tape was a must in order to keep the dye colors from blending into one another (it's honestly like painting with Kool-Aid), but it made all the difference. I've added some photos of the crate from start to finish just for reference. Amazing product - can't wait to try the blue dye soon!

Colors are vibrant and using combinations of the colors is almost endless. Definitely mix dye with a little warm water to get it dissolved then decide if you're going all water or add ISO alcohol. (rubbing alcohol) If final piece is outdoors definitely use a UV Sealer.

I made the mistake of mixing it indoors. The granules are exceedingly small, and each one packs a big punch. I mixed it in a bathroom with a white backsplash, and spent a good 20 minutes splashing water around afterwards, and squeegeeing it down the drain. I was trying to make an orange stain. I liked the color I ultimately got, but beware when the stain looked orange in a cup it was yellow on lumber. I just added red until the solution looked red in the cup, and orange on the project.
