Q: My problem is with chipmunks and small red squirrels - will this device work for them?

I am not sure. I works great with Voles and snakes.

Any bait-block type, but make sure block has a hole in it to suspend from feeder rod.

Q: Is this product offered in a 1 pack? I can't imagine what I would do with the remaining 5. Seems like a lot for the residential customer.

I have about a dozen of these wonderful bait stations. I believe I had any other option but to buy as single unit. I normally put out 6-8 at a time during the active vole season. Since critters like raccoons also want to eat the baits my stations sometimes go missing. If you buy a 6-pack I would buy them and just put 4 and keep 2 spares.

Q: What is the approximate size of rats that could fit into the tube? It looks a little tight for some of the bigger ones we've encountered.

I would think a small rat could access the stations but I seen none of those here in the mountains. I use 8 bait stations to eliminate voles, moles and mice. I suspect chipmunks enter hence a reduced number. I have witnessed a raccoon stealing the baits. I cut and placed 2x2 blocks at the bottom of rod to prevent bait thefts.
