Fine for light use
I've worn these boots twice in the water, with a bit of hiking to and from the sites. Given the price, they've held up much better than I feared. Both times I was kept completely dry, and there's no suggestion that cracks or leaks will soon appear. I see no evidence that they will not stand up to many more wearings. I bought them for occasional use in biological stream monitoring, so I have no requirements or expectations involving heavy-duty use. Three notes:The felt sole is a half-inch thick compressed felt pad, with an additional half-inch felt pad for the heel. It does provide some traction on stream bottoms. After my usage there's some minor fraying around the edges which in no way implies that the whole thing is becoming unraveled. I'm guessing it will last at least as long as the rubbery boot material. The size 11 boots I received fit at least a half size small. My feet are 10-1/2, recently measured, and the boots would be a bit snug for any sort of prolonged hiking. I would order them a size larger than usual.Out of the package, the boots emit a mighty vinyl-like stench, something like a child's inflatable swimming pool but very strong. After several days it may have diminished, but it still would not be pleasant for prolonged exposure in and enclosed space (ie, in a car).

Not a bad wader, but big guys beware
I am a pretty big guy, and on the thighs they got tough to pull over shorts. They are good waders, and they DO STINK. But hey, you are going outdoors, who cares. I got wet because I had a tough time securing the buckles to my belt since they would not go quite all the way up my hip. But for the price, they are nice and serve the purpose. If it's cold water, I would go to the chest waders though.

Petrol smell is horrible
I received these waders after having read the somewhat favorable reviews and taking the advice to order one size larger than my normal size. The waders fit perfectly, but to my dismay, when they arrived, they smelled like gasoline. I assumed it had something to do with the chemicals used to manufacture the hip wader, so I opted to use them to see if they would air out over time. Two weeks later, after being left outdoors in the rain, and used once in the river, they still smell like gasoline. When I used them at the river, I had on long pants. The pants smelled like gasoline after a day of fishing, my legs smelled like gasoline, and even after washing the pants, they still smell like gasoline. Unfortunately, I used the waders and feel that I am now stuck with them. Buyer beware, unless you want to smell like a grease monkey, stay clear of this product.

Ouch
Bought these waders because I have several fences that cross creeks. They tend to wash out from time to time and I have to go wading to fix them. These waders would have made me happy if they were true to size. I ordered size 13 and they felt like a 10. I should have returned them but needed to use them right away. Other than the fact that they turned my toes backwards I liked the item just fine.

Great waders for the money
Great waders for the money. I'm a daily fisherman in the spring and early summer and wear them consistently. On my second pair of these because my wife's brother was blazing a trail in sticker bushes in my first pair. At this price I may buy another next season. Obviously crawling on your knees or in stickers will put holes in them due to their material but that should be expected with any wader material. I stood next to my buddy this year on opening day with him wearing a pair of $100 leaky waders and me bone dry. Highly recommended.

Can't stand the smell.
I got these boots for trout fishing. The reviews I read said to buy a size larger than you normally wear, so I did and they fit fine. The quality seems good and the felt soles are better than rubber soles, but the smell is bad, just like some of the other reviews said. The smell transfers to your clothing, so you have to change cloths when you get back, or put up with the stink. I'll look for a different brand next time.

Worth the money
As many have mentioned, the smell is terrible. I've had mine over a year & it's still there although not quite as bad. You can't leave them in a vehicle or house. The smell also gets on your skin when wearing them. I keep mine in an outbuilding or the toolbox on my truck. Maybe this helps keep ticks away? :-)Hard to beat felt soles in a mountain stream.Got these on sale for around $40 shipped & still worth every penny.

Allen Clear Creek hip boots
These Clear Creek Allen hip waders are well made and are very comfortable. The felt soles are great for wading in streams where there are slippery river rocks, which is why I bought them. I must warn buyers that they smell like a oil refinery when you unpack them. The petrol smell will go away if you wash them with Dawn and then hang them up in the garage or somewhere outside like the patio.
