Functional, weak metal alloy
The original plastic latch and handle became brittle and broke. This item was a workable replacement. However, the latch, which is attached to the top of the mailbox, would only accept one bolt to attach the new latch. There was a remaining hole on the top of the mailbox. I used the second nut and bolt along with a flat washer to prevent water seeping into the mailbox. I have ordered some marine silicone sealant to seal the latch and handle. After several weeks I noticed the latch would not secure the door to the mail box. Apparently, the latch bends easily, losing friction, and losing ability to secure the door in place. I have to force the latch down to prevent the latch from slipping and allowing the door to open. I plan to replace the latch within a year or so - I suspect that the latch will eventually break.

Solid and bendable
Fixed the issue with my mailbox's broken latch. The design is flawed though because the slot to insert the crews into is not big enough for the two screws that come with the kit. So I had to work some magic to fit both screws in. Just one screw is not secure enough. The big metal hook is thick and bendable for a custom fit.

The Mailman is happy. Perfect fix.
My mailbox is 30 years old and the latch cracked in two. The mail carrier was cutting her fingers opening and closing mailbox using the sharp broken piece that was left. I saw the word "retro" and the pieces looked just like my old hardware. The latch kit fit perfect in all the old holes. I got an atta-boy from the mail carrier with wishes that all her customers would do the same.
