Works great
It works well. Complete system for transferring old 8mm films to digital format. It is time consuming, and a little difficult initially to get going. Depending on how much film you have to transfer. It’s a good buy. The only issue I’ve had is it will copy over an existing file if you’re not watching.

Wanted great things, got a simple camera
The motor in this device doesn’t pull the tape through usually, but even if it does, good luck lining it up. I would have gone straight to the manufacturer, but I’m not sure how to do that. It will maybe do great for one or two films, but then it will disappoint…. Don’t waste your money on this

Helped Save Family Memories
This proved to be a great way to convert our family's 8mm and Super 8 film much more cost effectively than sending them out to a service which can be as much as $12 per reel. I converted about 120 reels.. the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is towards the 100th reel the mechanism started skipping and cause issues with the video conversion. I had to redo a number of reels as a result. But I would say worth the money to convert precious family memories.

If you have a lot of films will save you a lot of money services charge 30 cents a ft..
I have converted about 50 reels and still going, both regular 8 and super 8 or various sizes. I'd take a short reel to experiment with at first. Setting up the X,Y and W(zoom in and out) of the camera in the frame adj is important. Once that is set good most of your stuff should be all set to go. You will have to adjust again when switching between reg 8 and super 8 (I wrote the numbers down) if you have a 10 min reel expect it to take 4 or 5x times longer to convert. Use a bright light to view the area threading the film through the gates. it is really important to get the film under the 3 tabs shown on the diagram or the film wont advance. push the film in through the first tab like threading a needle and do the same for the next 2. do not try to put in all 3 at the same time. You do have to keep an eye on it, splices may stick in the gate and need help clearing, or worse old splices may come apart and a nice huge pile of film will be on your desk... (Keep your cat away) I use Davinci Resolve 19 to edit the movies afterwards (is great free software you don't need the pay version) if your movies where shot in 18fps you can change the speed so it looks natural and not too fast. If you have super 8 sound it will not do the sound, I used my projector to pipe audio into the aux port of my computer used Audacity to capture the sound and later combined the tracks in Davinci.. stretching the movie to match the sound cut, turned our pretty good for me.. also services like Legacy Box do not do the audio for you at all.

This thing is SLOW! And... it has a few problems.
The good thing is it does provide a method to transfer your old 8mm and Super8mm home movies to .mp4 digital format. But it does that one-frame-at-a-time! Very slow! It takes about 30 minutes to do a simple 3 minute film. My family splices home movies with 5 films on 7" reel, shows in 15 to 20 minutes, but this machine takes 2 1/2 to 3 hours to scan! Now, there are other converters that click right along and will scan your 8mm films much quicker, but... they cost a lot more! Don't even THINK about using this machine to rewind after you've finished a reel! There is a method, but.. just set up your old movie projector and use it to rewind, much faster! This thing tends to tip forward (toward you). I stick the little plastic container that the 32GB SD card came in just under the front edge of the scanner to make it tilt slight back so it won't fall forward on you. Thanks for the 32GB SD chip! My cheapie 35MM slide scanner did not come with one! The tiny viewing screen on this machine is pretty much worthless. You will want to use the TV connector cord to any old TV that has a RCA video (usually yellow) Input. Watch the scan on the TV instead of on this machine. You will always want to adjust the frame thing with each film. The scanner camera always seems to be a wee bit out of vertical adjustment. Last thing: There is a comment printed on the front of the machine that says to make sure you put the film UNDER the three 'white tabs'. Well. there's only ONE White tab. The other two are the front and end tabs, and they are black and very hard to see! Keep a flashlight and magnify lens handy! For the price, its workable, but... so slow! Pay more for a fast scanner if you have many movies to scan!

I WAS Super Pleased!!!!
Edit: No fault to seller, but the machine stopped working after just a few reels. Return was quick and easy. I ordered this as a replacement machine for another brand machine that I've used for the last decade. I ordered this particlar unit because it will accomodate the larger reels. This machine is so much better than my previous one. It converts to an mp4 that doesn't need editing!! With my other machine, I had to edit the film at 54% because it rendered out in high speed...not this one. It comes out in perfect speed. The picture quality is great! I am very pleased!!!!! Service was the seller was very quick and efficient as well. Thank you!

It did not work at all. Returning.
It will not even power up. Yes, I followed the directions. No menu screen, zip. Wanted to exchange for one that might work, but Amazon selected return. Very disappointed.
