Does what it's supposed to.
This thing is a lifesaver. It's notched on both sides so it will work with both Fender and non-Fender fretboards. It's cut accurately on both sides and is nice and straight so you can really see if your fretboard needs to be straightened or not.

Excellent and affordable
It’s high quality. It does the job it’s meant to do. And it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

Well worth what it costs
It is straight and the edges are nicely and rounded. The more expensive notched straight edges are thicker and wider, this tool doesn't really stand on its own unless you have a very flat fretboard, but it isn't hard at all to hold it with one hand and turn the truss rod with the other hand. 5 stars for the value. If you are willing to spend 30+ dollars on something from Stew Mac, then go for it.... those are definitely nicer. Otherwise, this little notched straight edge is worth the money.

Well made, no manufacturing issues found. I'd recommend.
The item I received appears to be well made. Based on this one unit, I'd recommend. Caveat: I'm not a luthier, nor professional musician. Since some other reviews were negative, I ordered knowing I could return it if defective. So I tested the item for two metrics: Straightness and cut-out accuracy. To test straightness I went to my woodworking shop. Using three different surfaces I checked both edges shining an LED light from one side and looked for light shining through where it shouldn't. The surfaces: new melamine drill press table top, bandsaw steel table, and aluminum top table saw. Results: Pass. For accuracy I'm limited by tool-set. So I merely positioned the straight edge in the center of fret boards of every electric guitar I own, sliding the straight edge back and forth along the neck: Squier Telecaster, Squier Starcaster, Silvertone Strat, Washburn Lyon Strat (SSS), Washburn Lyon G.W Strat (HSS), 1960's Kapa Continental. All Passed. I did not measure the width nor depth of the cutouts. I'm unable to test the Gibson side. I will also mention that I found NO sharp edges to damage the fretboard. I've only used the straight edge to actually check for neck straightness on one guitar thus far. It showed a slightly bowed neck which I believe is what you want. I'll be checking the others in the days ahead.

Essential for checking guitar neck relief
Great tool for checking guitar neck relief. One side is 24.75" scale length (many Gibsons), other is 25.5" (many Fenders).

Curved isn't straight
UPDATE: Below is my original review. The item has since been replaced. The replacement item came without a curve. It appears to be straight. My opinion is the item wouldn't bend as easily if it was even 1 mm thicker. The item still could use some markings as to which side matches which neck size. I upped my star rating to three. ***ORIGINAL REVIEW*** The item was bowed right out of the box. Has a nice curve in it when laid flat. No way to do an accurate assessment with a defective tool. When I lay it flat on it's back and hold down one end, the other end rises about 3/8" above the surface. No good way to flatten it with any confidence in it's fidelity. Also, neither side is marked as to which type neck it lines up with. It's true what they say: You get what you pay for...

Works well and cheap.
I was hesitant to purchase this at first, because of some reviews saying that it was not straight, but finally pulled the trigger and ordered one. First, I checked both sides with an accurate straight edge and light. It is dead straight. Secondly, it works with my partscaster and the edges are not jagged or sharp. I don't know if there are batch issues, but the one i got is very well made and accurate. If they are all like this one, then it is a very, very good buy.

Low cost great quality!
This is low cost but great quality. I checked it and it is truly flat on both edges. You really need one of these if you are your own guitar tech! I didn't know what I was missing, it has really made the setup process much faster and reduces time fine tuning fret leveling because you can be sure the neck is truly straight before you begin the fret job.

Simple, no-fuss tool that does the job for me in checking neck relief for sitting up my guitar. Some comments say it’s not straight, but I’ve laid it against a piece of granite and it seems pretty flat to me. There’s not doubt better tools out their, but for my needs I can’t justify the money - I’m not going to be a luthier any time soon.

I like the precision of the machining and that you can use this tool over all of the different scale lengths that you might come across if you have multiple guitars. I had been using the truss rod to get rid of string buzz on my Fender Hot Rod Acoustic but I wanted to know more precisely whether I had adjusted the neck with a slight bow, flat or a slight back bow. This tool confirmed for me that I had a very slight forward bow and that is what I actually prefer. Very light material used in this tool. I highly recommend.

Great tool to check guitars for straightness and relief.... found price good compared to others , was true and straight both sides when checked with a precision ground straight edge. I like how light the aluminum is , and the finish is nice... not a tool that should be abused so i feel it will last for a very long time
