Recommend for kids of all ages.
My kids are teens and needed a brush up on their basic math. They have fun playing with this, they compete with who can be fastest. It functions as advertised and doesn't eat up batteries. It was easy to learn how to use it. The sound is loud enough to hear over talking. The educational value of this is amazing, my kids are so fast at doing math now. Definitely recommend for kids of all ages, especially teens because basic math gets forgotten as kids advance in school and this helps refresh it all. (My husband has one of these at work he gives to kids coming in to take their asvab for the military and some have taken it home to practice on and they raised their math score by an entire ten points or more which allowed them to pass the asvab and enlist. The public schools have neglected in ensuring kids actually know basic math before they graduate. This device changed the lives of multiple graduates that wouldn't have been able to go into the military because they had forgotten basic math.) I can't recommend this enough. Math is a vital thing to understand and this device really does help, especially with memory. It's the basics of math in one little device. *I hope the company continues to make these and invents another one that does higher levels of math.*

Great way to practice math skills
I bought this math shark for my 8yr old son to practice his math skills over the summer. It turns out to be a great math review for my 4 yr old too. The various levels and skills that the kids can work on makes this a toy that will grow with a child. The display screen is simple and not too over stimulation. The volume and sounds coming from the math shark are pleasant and not too loud or too annoying ( I am very sensitive to toys with sounds... this one is great). The only negative thing I have to say is that the first one I bought had a screen that was dysfunctional (two parts of the screen did not work making it difficult to do the math problems). We got a replacement and the second one works great. I would say this would be a great gift but I'd be pretty embarrassed to give someone thing that arrived broken.

Fire Hazard
Do not buy this thing. We replaced the batteries on it and within 2 minutes, the new batteries were hot to the touch. Within 3 minutes, they were hissing and sparking. This toy is not worth burning your house down for.

Screen hard to see.
Good for learning, but the screen is like the old Gameboy. Needs a very bright room to see the screen.

Having a son with an intellectual disability, it’s hard to find toys that he actually enjoys. He is a lover of math so I thought this would be great. I was right. He LOVES this and takes it everywhere with him. Constantly calculating random things he sees. The games are fun and engaging for him so he never looses interest.

I was disappointed in the calculator function. Although the package shows a full operation in the display beside the caption "Fully Functional Calculator", in the calculator mode the operation is in fact not shown. Each individual entry is shown as it is made, but this removes the previous entry, as does the result display. This means the child can't play with numbers on their own and see what happens, such as entering and seeing on the display "100 + 100= 200". As the display is capable of this, as it does in the "Learning Mode", you would think this would be a valuable addition. Also, the display could be better, as would the ability to adjust the volume. The range of problems in the learning mode seems to be good.
